I never wanted to be a hero. I just wanted to do my job.

When I took the post of SP in Bharat Nagar, I knew it was a punishment posting—a graveyard for honest cops. But I swore to uphold the law. Then I met Gurdayal Singh’s widow. She handed me a diary—pages filled with evidence against Bhika, names, dates, transactions. Within 48 hours, Gurdayal was dead. I followed the trail. Arrested Bhika. Got Mary D’Souza to testify.

For one morning, hope flickered.

Then the order came: transfer to Malegaon. Bhika walks free. Gulabchand throws a victory rally.

Now I sit in my office, the city outside pulsing with fear. Aadesh waits at the gate, begging to see his sister. My phone rings—anonymous tip: ‘They’re going to kill Mary tonight.’

I have three choices: file a formal complaint and wait for the system to bury it, go rogue and protect Mary myself, or leak everything to the press and burn my career to ash.

What do I do?
