Snow White: Poisoned Hearts

I never meant to be the fairest.

It started with the mirror—a silver thing with a voice like smoke. Snow White is fairest now, it said, and my stepmother’s hands turned to claws.

I ran into the woods, where birds guided me and deer carried my cloak. I found the dwarfs’ cottage covered in vines, its door ajar, as if waiting. They grumbled, but let me stay. I cook, clean, sing. I pretend I’m safe.

But last night, I saw my reflection in the well. My eyes were black. My lips moved without me. And I whispered, Soon.

The Prince came today. He didn’t smile. He said, 'She’s not trying to kill you. She’s trying to become you.'

I don’t know what I am anymore.

Do I trust the Prince? Do I confront the Queen? Or do I let the apple decide?
