I’m Pinocchio—just carved, just alive, and already full of questions. Last night, I tumbled off the shelf, and Geppetto caught me like I was his own son. The Blue Fairy gave me life, and Jiminy Cricket became my conscience, though I’m not sure I need one.

Now, dawn breaks over the village, and I’m supposed to go to school. But Honest John finds me on the path, tipping his hat with a grin. ‘School? For a talent like you? You belong on stage, boy!’

Jiminy tugs my sleeve: ‘Don’t listen to him, Pinocchio! He’s a crook!’

But the idea thrills me—imagine the applause, the lights, the freedom! I turn to Jiminy: ‘What if I just try it? Just one show?’

He shakes his head. ‘One show leads to another. And then you’re stuck.’

Honest John winks. ‘No strings, kid. Just fame.’

I look between them—the cricket who nags, the fox who promises everything. My fingers twitch toward the road to the theater.

What do I do?
