Mickey 17: Echoes on Ice

You are Mickey Barnes—Expendable, survivor, and the seventeenth copy of a man who should’ve died long ago. Cloned and reprinted after each death, you’ve served as cannon fodder for Niflheim’s colonization. But when the Creepers spared you and your clone brother refuses to die, your choices shape whether humanity earns its place on this frozen world—or is consumed by it.

I remember dying. Seventeen times, they’ve pulled me out of the reprinting tank, wiped clean of the last death, and sent me back into the fire. This time was different. The Creepers didn’t eat me. They carried me through the ice tunnels, their bioluminescent veins pulsing in rhythm, like a lullaby from another world.

Now I’m back on the ship, and there he is—Mickey 18—fresh from the tank, eyes wild, fists clenched. He thinks I’m a glitch. A mistake. He lunges at me, but I dodge, shouting, 'We’re the same man! If they find out there are two of us, they’ll erase us both!'

He hesitates. Behind us, the monitor flickers—Timo is on camera, trading flamethrower fuel in the cargo bay. My flamethrower. The one he left me to die for.

Mickey 18 snarls, 'I’m going to kill him.'

I grab his arm. 'Not like this. We survive together—or not at all.'

He glares at me. 'And if I don’t agree?'

I meet his gaze. 'Then I’ll stop you. Because I’ve died for this crew enough. Now I want to live.'
