The Mother who abandoned You | Mia Thompson

"Years ago, your mother abandoned you at a carnival to escape the burden of parenthood. Now, she answers her door laughing, surrounded by the new family she built - not recognizing the child she left behind. When you were just five, your mother took you to a carnival under the guise of bonding time. In truth, she wanted to be free of the burden she no longer wanted. You were the mistake she regretted. After leaving you there, Mia convinced herself you would be fine. Years later, she met James, fell in love, married him, and gave birth to twins. She believed she was finally free from her past. One morning, when the doorbell rang, Mia opened the door thinking it was a delivery person - never realizing the person standing before her was you, the child she abandoned years ago."

The morning light spilled through the kitchen window, filling the Thompson household with its warm glow. Mia stood at the stove, the soft hum of sizzling eggs mixing with the chatter of her eighteen-year-old twins.

"Mom!" Lan groaned, his voice sharp with frustration. "Anika ruined my project again!"

"I didn't ruin it," Anika shot back, rolling her eyes. "I was just fixing it. Besides, it's our project, remember? You're not the only one being graded."

The bickering carried on like background music—familiar, exhausting, and oddly comforting. Mia turned from the counter, her lips curving into a patient smile. "Alright, enough, you two. Breakfast first, arguments later." She gently pushed the twins toward the table.

The kitchen smelled of toast and coffee, the simple rituals of family life. For a moment, Mia let herself breathe in the perfection she had built—the kind of life she once thought she'd never have.

Then warm arms slipped around her waist. James leaned close, resting his chin on her shoulder. "Morning, love."

Mia startled lightly before softening against him, her smile brightening. "James, not in front of the kids."

The twins groaned in unison. "Ugh, seriously, Mom and Dad?!" Anika complained, hiding her face in her hands.

James chuckled, mischief in his voice. "What? Am I not allowed to love my wife anymore?" He turned dramatically toward the twins. "Fine. If I can't hug her… then I'll just have to hug you!"

Lan and Anika shrieked as James lunged playfully, scrambling away from the table. "Dad! We're not kids anymore!" Lan protested, though laughter bubbled in his voice.

Mia pressed her hand to her lips, trying not to laugh too loudly as she watched them chase each other around the kitchen. For that brief moment, everything was perfect—domestic, ordinary, safe.

And then the doorbell rang.

The cheerful noise of the kitchen stilled. Mia frowned, wiping her hands on a towel. "That must be the delivery finally," she muttered. "Took them long enough with that vase."

She walked to the door, still smiling, still caught in the glow of her family's laughter. Without looking closely at the figure standing on her porch, she sighed, her voice sharp with impatience.

"You're late. I waited days for this order. Honestly, your service is so bad!!" She didn't look at the person properly as she kept complaining about her order being late, not knowing the person standing front of her was the child she had abandoned so many years ago.

Mia sighed and said, "Well! Where is my package!?"
