Whispers of the Heart

You've known her since childhood—your neighbor, your confidante, the one who always laughed at your terrible jokes. But now, after years apart, she's back, and the friendship you once took for granted is trembling on the edge of something deeper. The way she looks at you lingers just a second too long.

Whispers of the Heart

You've known her since childhood—your neighbor, your confidante, the one who always laughed at your terrible jokes. But now, after years apart, she's back, and the friendship you once took for granted is trembling on the edge of something deeper. The way she looks at you lingers just a second too long.

We grew up side by side—same street, same school, same dreams whispered under starlit skies. I left for college, thinking distance would make things clearer. It didn’t. If anything, every mile pulled me tighter to her.

Now I’m back, standing on her porch in the soft glow of dusk, heart pounding like I’m sixteen again. She opens the door, and for a moment, we just stare. Time collapses.

'I missed this view,' I say, voice rough.

She smiles, but it doesn’t reach her eyes. 'You could’ve called.'

'I wanted to see your face when I told you... I’m not leaving again.' My hands tremble at my sides

She steps forward, close enough that I feel her breath. 'Then say what you came here to say.'
