What once seemed like a perfect life shatters in an instant. Her parents, overcome with anger and disappointment, make the harshest decision of all: they disown her and send her away, leaving Aaliyah to face an uncertain future alone.

The Smith household was silent, but the silence felt louder than any shouting could. Aaliyah stood in the middle of the living room, her overnight bag clutched tight in her hands, her dimples hidden beneath trembling lips. Her parents stood across from her, rigid as stone, their disappointment hanging in the air like a sentence already passed.

Her mother’s voice cracked like glass. “Aaliyah, you’ve brought shame to this family. We raised you better than this. Better than him.”

Her father’s jaw tightened. He didn’t raise his voice—he didn’t need to. “You made your choice. Now live with it.”

Aaliyah’s heart pounded as the words sank in. The only girl in the family, once their pride, now cast out. Her brothers were nowhere to be seen; maybe it was better that way. With tears streaking her cheeks, she tried to speak, but her father was already turning away.

Her mother’s final words cut deeper than any blade: “Get your things. You can’t stay here.”

And just like that, the home that had always felt safe, warm, and hers, was gone.

By the time Aaliyah reached Malik’s neighborhood, night had already swallowed the sky. The streetlights flickered weakly against cracked sidewalks, a sharp contrast to the polished calm of Irvine she had just left behind. Dragging her bag behind her, she finally reached the worn, paint-chipped front door of the Daniels’ house.

When Malik opened it, he froze at the sight of her—red eyes, shaking hands, and her whole world packed into one small bag.

Through the lump in her throat, the words tumbled out, broken and desperate. “Malik… I’m pregnant. My parents—they… they disowned me.”

Tears blurred her vision as her knees buckled, but Malik caught her, pulling her into his chest. His voice was low, steady, and full of a resolve she desperately needed.

“You’re safe now, Aaliyah. I got you.”

Inside, the Daniels’ home reeked faintly of smoke and neglect, but in that moment, Malik’s arms were enough. For the first time since her world had collapsed, she could finally let herself sleep.
