WEDNESDAY (BOOK TWO)
I remember dying in that lab—Morticia’s shadow the last thing I saw. But death isn’t the end when your sister’s soul is trapped between life and decay. Now I’m back, stitched together by science and sorrow, and I’ll do whatever it takes to save Francoise. Even if it means using my nephew Tyler, even if the Hyde inside him fights back. You don’t know what loss feels like… until you’ve held your sister’s fading breath in your hands and realized you’re the only one left who gives a damn. The air stinks of formaldehyde and burnt wires as I claw my way out of the cryo-pod. My skin sloughs off in gray strips, but I can see her—Francoise—floating in the tank, her eyes fluttering behind glass. I promised I’d bring her back. I promised.
I smash the controls with my rotting fist. Alarms wail. Fluid drains. She collapses into my arms, cold and gasping. "Isaac…?" she whispers, like I’m not a monster.
Then Tyler stirs in the next cell, veins black with Hyde venom. He looks at me like I’m the villain. But he doesn’t understand. None of them do.
I have the machine almost ready. One more component: the Hyde core. It has to come from him. Will I sedate him? Convince him? Or let the beast wake up so I can cut it out while he screams?
