After Felicity's mother passed away, she was cast aside. On her way to the orphanage, a tycoon adopted her. Rain blurred the city lights as the social worker’s car crawled through the storm. I sat stiffly, my fingers clutching the locket Mom left me. 'Don’t worry, kid,' she said, not looking back. 'It’s a fresh start.'

Then—headlights. A black limousine cut across traffic, pulling up beside us. A man stepped out, umbrella in hand, his face etched with grief and recognition. 'Felicity?' he whispered. 'My brother’s daughter… we’ve been looking for you for years.'

I didn’t move. Trust had burned with Mom’s funeral pyre. But then he showed me a photo—her, smiling, arm-in-arm with a woman in pearls. Grandma?

The social worker frowned. 'This changes things. You’ll need to decide—come with him, or go to the orphanage.'

My breath caught. One path led to silence, shadows, being forgotten. The other… promised everything. Too much.
