The Psychopath Maker

The polished brass doorknob of Primrose Dorm clicked shut behind Brittany and Fiona, casting them into the quiet, vacant hallway. The usual Friday evening exodus to Gavin's, the off-campus party haven, meant the seniors and juniors were long gone. Even the underclassmen, typically lurking and hoping for inclusion, seemed to have vanished, leaving an eerie silence.
"I guess that's a no," Fiona said, pushing open the heavy walnut-stained doors of the foyer, a faint sigh escaping her lips. "But I'll eventually get you to hang out with us."
Brittany offered a faint smile, already running down the four wide concrete steps in front of the dormitory. "One day. I can only hope."
Fiona smiled back, then gave Brittany a quick hug before sprinting towards the sleek silver Tesla parked at the curb, her magenta dress bouncing with each step. "Well, I'll see you when you're done getting that money!"
Brittany watched her friend depart, then slipped her earbuds in, the dancehall beats of Rihanna filling her ears. As she began her warm-up stretches, her gaze drifted across the parking lot separating the male and female dorms. Her eyes landed on him – 'Psycho Benny' – fiddling with something on his motorbike. He must have felt her gaze, because he looked up, flashing her a timid smile.
"Weirdo," Brittany muttered under her breath, scoffing softly. He shrugged, revved his engine, and sped off, not towards Gavin's, but somewhere else entirely. The purplish dusky sky hung heavy above as Brittany started her run on the worn path around the campus perimeter, her rhythmic strides taking her deeper into the quiet woods.
