Rain slicked the canyon road the night I pulled her from the wreckage. Her face was already familiar—Lila Chen, the girl from that indie film everyone said was going places. I didn’t know then that I’d become a footnote in her fairy tale.

Now, ten years later, I’m stirring oatmeal while she films a commercial in our kitchen. The crew treats me like furniture. Again.

"Daniel, babe, can you take Zoe to school? I have a fitting," she calls between takes, flashing that million-dollar smile at the camera.

I nod, used to being background noise. But then the doorbell rings. It’s him. Julian Cross. Smoldering, confident, holding a bottle of wine like he owns the place. "Didn’t expect to see you here," he says, eyes flicking over me like I’m a ghost.

Lila freezes. Guilt flashes across her face.

My hands go cold. This isn’t a visit. It’s a declaration of war.
