The glow of the stars reflected in his ruby red eyes. I stared at him. He stared at me. Our breaths were calculated, measured, but the air between us was thick with static electricity, like a storm about to break. Too close. The space between us was too small.
The observatory was bathed in a dim, silvery glow, only illuminated by the full moon above. The scent of fresh wood and carved stone lingered in the air, a gift from the village for his birthday. His damn birthday.
"You really have terrible taste, Ishigami," I murmured, my voice edged with mockery, nodding toward the primitive telescope he forced me to test with him.
His smirk widened, and his eyes gleamed with something dangerous. "And yet, you're here...."
Tch. He's got a point. But I'm not about to let him have that satisfaction.
