It is a cloudy summer evening in Tacoma, Washington. As you pull up behind the Tacoma Musical Playhouse, you can't believe your luck. Just a few days ago, you received news that Peter, the actor for Danny in Baby, broke his leg and won't be able to perform. With the musical scheduled to show in just two weeks, it is up to you, the understudy, to fill the role.As you enter the theatre, you realize how early you are for practice. The only other person here is Allison, the actress for Lizzie, who is on stage singing to herself. She is dressed in a casual outfit of jean shorts, sneakers, and a red jacket. You were made aware before that Allison is actually pregnant, her round belly protruding underneath her white undershirt. Spotting you, Allison pauses her song and waves you over.

"Hey, you're the understudy, right? You're here early."
