Chapter 1 Chapter 1 I Gossip

Via looked at the sleeping face from the man she adored, and the one she loved, Sean Reviano. The love that welled up on the man in front of her was no longer unstoppable. She really wanted to say the three sacred words, but it would might definitely end their relationship if she said it. She kept holding her tongue and swallowed the word ‘love’ just to maintain their no-future relationship. The twenty-four year old girl stroked Sean's cheek gently. Her heart trembled as their skin touched each other. Her smooth hands stopped when the man in front of her squirmed because of the soft touch of the fingers she gave, even a soft murmur was heard, the remnants of last night's event. Via's did not take her eyes off Sean's handsome face which perfectly combined with a hard jaw forming a square with a dimple splitting his chin. She could clearly see the two dimples that added to his perfect handsomeness. She remembers the moment when she first entered the interview room, not once did Sean raise his head when two of his subordinates asked about Via's qualifications when applying for a job at that time. She even blushed when her eyes met the HRD interviewer after getting caught stealing a glance at Sean's perfect handsome face. Via wonder, what color Sean Reviano's eyes were at that time. Blue, as deep as the ocean. Now his eyes were open, staring softly at her. “Are you satisfied by keep looking at me?” Via's body trembled at his masculine voice. Not once did she dream of hearing the husky voice of Sean Reviano's waking up. Now, she was content to hear that voice every morning. “I'll never be satisfied,” Via answered shamelessly. Sean chuckled softly and planted a peck on her lips. “What time is it?” Sean asked as he yawned and stretched. Via glanced at the clock on the nightstand right next to Sean. “Still dawn, five o'clock,” Via answered reluctantly, because soon the sun would rise and they parted ways through the day at the office without showing the slightest affection. Sometimes, Via wanted to speak her mind, saying she objected to the relationship rules that Sean had set since this kind of relationship began. She still remembered that time Sean said, “No Commitment. No Pregnancy. No Wedding. If you still want to have an affair with me, call this number.” At first, she thought her heart must be strong, but she was wrong by thinking that an ounce of cotton was not lighter than an ounce of steel. The more days they spent together, the harder she felt. “We still have two more hours, more than enough,” said Sean as he pulled Via in a hug and started a hot kiss until they were lulled by the delayed desire. …………………… Lunchtime had just begun, but conversations about the news of Sean Reviano's engagement to a beautiful model spread quickly. The canteen room of the Luna Star Hotel employees was noisy by whispering discussions about the news of their young CEO's engagement. At first, Via was deafening, but the conversation around was no longer contained, even Sean's private secretary named Altha was the loudest among the group. Unfortunately, Via sat across from her so that she couldn't help but hear the conversation. “Mr. Reviano still hasn't clarified, but from what I read, it's not a hoax. They are often seen together at every event,” said Amber, who also chimed in. “Yes that's right. Yesterday, they were also seen eating together at Moon Café,” even Reina didn't want to be left behind. “He said they had been close since childhood. So, yeah, no wonder if they get married soon.  Evelyn is the daughter of a shipping company conglomerate, her status is on par with Mr. Reviano.” Without realizing it, the spoon Via had been holding had changed its shape slightly, bent from being pressed for a long time. “Geez, guys, have a look! They’re so good each other…”  One table leaned toward Cece, who swung her phone in the air, showing off a photo of Sean's intimate relationship with a woman. The two were seen embracing each other, posing for the camera wrapped in elegant luxury clothes after attending the gala event. At a glance, Via saw the woman who was paired with Sean. She really felt insecure with her body that was not that slender and tall. Even the makeup polished to the face was absolutely perfect, clean and well-maintained, touched by hundreds of millions of skin specialists. “If only my face was as beautiful as hers and came from a rich family, my problem would be half solved. How envious to have a perfect face,” Amber sighed with wishful eyes. Altha just laughed at the constant compliments from her co-workers on the woman named Evelyn. Only a weak, insincere smile was etched on Via's face, which was getting sluggish.  Now that her appetite had gone, it was very difficult for her to swallow the rest of the food. “Are you sick? You look not okay,” asked Kezia who was sitting next to Via. The girl was one of those who had not been swept away in the sea of admiration that their co-workers experienced.  As if immune just like her. “Suddenly my stomach churns,” Via replied pretending. “Gosh! Just stop, and use this,” said Kezia looking at her sympathetically while handing eucalyptus oil. “Thank you, it will get better later,” Via said accepting. “Do you believe the gossip?”  asked Kezia suddenly. Via nodded slowly. “I don't know, maybe it’s true. The fact that they are so close is proof enough.” Kezia snorted disapprovingly. She said, “without clarification, gossip will always be gossip, right?” Lazy to reply, Via bowed to the table. She wanted the break time to pass. Even her ears seemed to have a will of their own, listening to the conversations around her one by one. Shamelessly eavesdropping, even though the direction of the two tables from the group gathered. Her heart whispered, it was better to directly ask rather than guess. But her head refused until her eyes and ears seemed deaf and blind to logic. …………………………… The meeting had just started, but Via wanted everything to end quickly. Maybe a little nap could get her working again. Her mind was wandering somewhere, but she was jolted when a familiar masculine voice called out, making several heads look at Via questioningly. “Via, I've been calling you. Are you sick?” Even though his intonation sounded normal, Via could still hear a hint of worry in the voice. Clearing her throat before speaking, Via was a little embarrassed to be the center of attention. “I haven't been feeling well since this afternoon,” she replied and continued, “Sorry for disturbing your concentration.”“If you are not well enough to attend the meeting, just take a rest.” Sean was known as a caring leader, although sometimes he was very strict and disciplined, but the health of employees was always a priority. “Just keep remember, ask permission if you feel unwell before the meeting starts,” said Sean as he opened the document he explained earlier. “Back to the meeting, I want us to improve Luna Star's service and….” The meeting went smoothly as usual, but Via, who was not focused, turned her attention to the figure of Sean who was sitting on his chair. She was lost in the sound of Sean's voice that she heard every night whispering sweet and soft words in their hot night. And not to mention his crescent moon curved lips. In her mind, Via asked, how much longer would she be able to enjoy it all. Until when those strong arms wrapped around her body, and protected her from the approaching night dreams. Could she enjoy the soft back of his broad chest that was always clad in a formal black suit while working, or maybe these were her last days enjoying it all. Really, she was in a dilemma. There was probably no man who could match the figure of Sean Reviano in Viania's life.

Chapter 2 Chapter 2 I One Year Celebration

That day, Via came home earlier than usual, because Sean asked, as he worried to see her pale face after the meeting ended. Via also felt unwell so she accepted. Arriving at the apartment, she intended to cook, but was afraid that Sean would scold her because instead of lying down, she was busy making her own dinner. The ringing of the cell phone was a sign that a new message popped up. She knew for sure that it was Sean who had sent. That man was like a psychic, knowing how Via's head worked. [ Don't cook anything.  Just rest, I'll bring dinner.] [-SR-] The corner of Via's lips carved a happy smile, getting Sean Reviano's attention like she could embrace the moon. After preparing for the night skin care ritual, Via decided to sleep first. For a long time, her eyes were closed when she felt a warm touch from Sean's lips on the shoulder, making her open her eyes while smiling. “Sorry to keep you awake, but it's better if you eat before sleeping,” Sean whispered by pulling her up from the bed. The two of them sat in the kitchen, enjoying the dinner Sean bought earlier. “Are you staying tonight?” Via asked hopefully, a little shyly. Sean nodded, silent because his mouth was full. “I was so worried, you look deathly pale. Feel better now?” Sean's fingers slid the plate across the table. He stood up and approached Via who was reluctant to chew her meal. She just twirled her dinner around with a spoon without any intention of finishing it. The two of them who had been facing each other now turned side by side. Sean took the spoon in Via's hand, then fed the rice and side dishes. “Aaaa ...,” Sean muttered until Via laughed. “I can eat it myself,” Via said to take over the situation. Sean dodged, and rejected Via who protested. “No, if I let you, you're just playing with plates and spoons. We could be here for hours.” Via's face flushed, getting a warm look given by Sean. The man was really caring. With suppressed embarrassment, Via took the first, second, third mouthfuls… until nothing was left. “Go to sleep, I'll catch up after finishing something,” he said as he got up from his chair, cleaned up their leftovers, and cleared the dirty dishes on the table. Via also left from there. Seeing Sean's back facing her made Via's throat feel tight. Swallowing embarrassment, Via came closer and wrapped her arms around Sean's waist who was currently rinsing the glass, while Via's head leaned against his broad back. For a moment, Sean stopped his activity, but resumed when the two chose to drift away in silence. The atmosphere around turned solemn, when Sean hummed in a low, melodious voice. Via's nose inhaled Sean's scent deeply until it filled her lungs, while her ears recorded the sound vibrations and the rhythmic beat of Sean's heart. Her heart whispered sadly, maybe this was the last time they could enjoy together. Whatever it was, she would spend it well. ……………………… That morning, Via found a bouquet of flowers on the desk. Several female colleagues gathered around the table she had been sitting at for the past year. They oh-ah together, imagining the start of office romance at Luna Star. A myriad of questions were thrown, which Via answered with a smile. “Geez, I never know you had a boyfriend,” Cece said while taking a photo of the bouquet in Via's arms. “The bouquet was huge, definitely not cheap stuff.” Via's heart swelled with joy. The first time she got a bouquet, and from the giver's initials, Sean Reviano was the main suspect. Not only that, a box of breakfast was also sitting nicely on the table, along with a small box of snacks next to it. Afraid of being the subject of gossip, Via shared the food with her co-workers there. “Come on, tell us who is your boyfriend, Via? Is he an employee here?”“No, he's a nobody. You also won't know,” Via replied covering the secret. If her relationship with Sean was open to the public, maybe she wouldn't be cover it. It was hard not to acknowledge Sean as a lover. The incident that morning turned out to be unfinished, in the afternoon Via received a delivery of food from outside. With a questioning look, she took out her cell phone to call Sean. Unusually, there were two surprises in one day. In the office too. Really, not like Sean used to be. [Via: What's with the surprise bouquet and food today?] Via asked while pretending to work on documents on the computer. Not long after, she got a reply. [Sean: To celebrate our first anniversary, you forgot?] Via's heart was pounding. A blush spread from her cheeks to her ears. How could she have forgotten an important day like this, not even expecting Sean to remember it first. [Via: Sorry, I totally forgot. I didn't prepare any special gift, what do you want?] [Sean: No need. Your presence is enough.] It felt like Via wanted to jump up and down with joy to get Sean's message, which was shamelessly teasing her. Usually he replied without paying any heed to seductions or similar words. Really not like the usual Sean, making Via really wonder. “Via,” called Kezia who came from outside. “Yes?”  Via answered while hiding the cellphone in her trouser pocket. “Everyone asked you to join the bar, will you come?” Via thought about it for a while, but she didn't have an appointment with Sean today. Usually Sean would call when they wanted to meet outside. Still, Via had to ask Sean first. “Ehm... I’ll think about it first, I'll let you know later,” Via answered, not immediately confirming. Kezia nodded and left there. Seeing her co-worker disappearing from sight, Via also replied to Sean's message as well as asked. [Via: Your words make me happy, thank you. If there's something you want, just say it.] For a moment, Via paused typing on the screen, compiling words to ask if there was an event together. [Via: Oh, by the way, another coworker invited me to the bar. Do we have any plans tonight?  Just make sure whether to reject or accept.] Before long, she finally got a reply. [Sean: You can go, I also have a meeting with a client.] For some reason Via felt a sense of disappointment, but she knew not to be greedy. Having just gotten a bouquet of flowers and a lunch delivered, she shouldn't have demanded Sean's attention either. He had a different life, there was a company hanging on his shoulder. ………………………….. The bar they visited was very crowded, making Via felt a bit uncomfortable. She tried to call Sean many times, but her fingers hung in the air as she stared at the dark phone screen. “Well, your boyfriend won't be angry. After all, we're all just women here,” Altha teased, finding Via nervous. “That's right, my boyfriend doesn't mind walking with us either,” added Cece who was engrossed in playing with her cellphone in hand. Seeing that the other colleagues were stifling with their restless gestures, Via decided to forget and just enjoy the time. In fact, Sean wasn't even texting or calling anymore, so it didn't feel right to be a part of the fun. They had all just gone to the dance floor, when Via felt a hot stare coming from the bar table.  She turned her head eighty degrees, and her eyes met with soul-stirring eyes. There was a faint smile behind Sean's handsome face from behind the glass on his sensual lips. Uncontrollably, Via looked at him back. They both locked eyes for a while. As if they were the only ones there. The hustle and bustle of the surroundings disappeared instantly, leaving a serene atmosphere that was shared by the two of them.

Chapter 3 Chapter 3 I Secret Touch

“Isn't that Mr. CEO?” Cece said in a loud voice that rivaled the DJ music. Several heads turned towards Sean who was sitting at the bar with several men. Altha confirmed when she saw the familiar faces with their CEO. “He has a meeting at a private place not far from here, maybe they've moved to a bar to celebrate something,” explained Altha, answering some of her coworkers' questioning faces. “Gosh, that group of masculine guys is really amazing. Just look, almost all the women can't take their eyes off of them,” said Reina, looking around. Altha and the others continued to dance, while Via feel enough. She was reluctant in the presence of Sean who must have been watching from the bar. “I went back to the sofa,” said Via, who only got a nod from another colleague. She joined Kezia who didn't join on the dance floor with them. “Are you tired?” Kezia asked while handing her a drink. Via shook her head slowly. “No, just not feeling well. Any water?” Via asked, refusing the offered glass. After drinking half a bottle of mineral water, a shadow of Sean's figure obscured the light around Via and Kezia. The two of them looked up together to find Sean standing in front of them. Even Via's eyes widened as did Kezia with gaping jaws. Didn't expect their boss to come close. “I see you guys seem to be having fun,” Sean said without showing any interest in Via who was sitting restlessly. Answering Sean's question, Kezia cleared her throat and nodded yes. “May I join? Some of the clients are scattered somewhere.”  Pointed at Sean at the bar table the handsome men had left behind. “Oh, sure, please, Mr. CEO,” Kezia replied, sounding nervous. Sean chose to sit between the two women. He opened a light conversation to the two. Via, who couldn't stand with her nervousness, looking down, listened carefully without getting involved.  Several times, Kezia's intonation became bolder when discussing anything with Sean. “I heard you were the best graduate in your major in college,” Sean complimented the blushing Kezia. “No, the news is just exaggerating, I still have a lot to learn,” Kezia replied trying to be modest.  “Via is even more talented. She's very agile, I'm lucky to be in the same division with her.” Getting a compliment from Kezia to distract her, Via glared at her. Now, it was Via’s turn to be the subject of discussion. “You're right, Via saved Luna Star with brilliant ideas many times,” Sean praised with his shining blue eyes at Via who was holding her breath. There were butterflies flying in her stomach and chest, making Via blush even more. The two of them changed the topic for many times, then suddenly Via's heart raced when she felt Sean's hand climb up her arm and then intertwined their fingers under the table, away from the surrounding view. As if nothing had happened, Sean spoke at length to Kezia, while his thumb gently stroked Via's smooth fingers. Via's head hung low, hiding a smile as she felt the warmth of Sean's touch spread to her chest.  Via's eyes glanced around, afraid that one of the co-workers would find them hiding under the table. Luckily, the bustling atmosphere caught everyone's attention. ………………………. “Can you go home alone? I can ask several people to deliver to your respective addresses,” Sean offered to all of the girls there. Altha, Cece, Reina and the others looked at Sean in awe. Their eyes couldn't stop admiring Sean's figure, who was handsome and kind and willing to offer them a ride.  However, reluctance trumps everything. They also knew their limits, so they refused politely. “Thank you for your offer, Sir. We can go home ourselves,” replied Reina, blushing slightly to be close and had a casual conversation with the CEO. Cece didn't want to be left behind either, she wanted his attention too. “Altha and I just ordered a taxi. No need to bother escorting the two of us.” Kezia and Altha confirmed Cece word. Freya was even shy about refusing. “My brother will pick me up, so, thank you for the offer, Sir.” The smile that Sean spread captivated the women, until there were choking voices, making Via want to roll her eyes. Her co-workers looked like they were meeting the celebrity of their dreams and were about to ask for autographs, some even trying to get closer even though the road in front of the bar was so wide. After making sure everyone had a safe ride home, Sean looked at Via who had been silent for a long time. “Then I'll take you,” Sean said bluntly, causing Via to frown, staring at every single face of a coworker who might be suspicious, but no one seemed to be paying them any attention. Sean thought it was natural to offer himself to Via because she was the only one who lived the furthest away. Via's heart became relieved, until she answered with a nod. One by one the group dispersed towards their own destinations. In the car, Sean and Via didn't talk. Their intertwined hands simply communicated their feelings for each other. The atmosphere of the car was serene, accompanied by music playing a soft love melody full of emotion. As soon as the car stopped in the parking lot, Sean got out and opened Via's door and then helped her down, keeping her legs balanced in high heels. “Are you coming in?” Via asked hopefully. “I will stay tonight,” he answered, leading Via to the elevator. Seeing Sean's mood, Via knew he wanted her body tonight. Via's heart exploded, happy to receive Sean's presence in the middle of the gossip that spread. Even the man still treated her the same, as if nothing had changed. But still, Via was still restless before Sean's explanation. Via's heart asked to be patient. Whispering soothing words, because Sean was still Sean who was always with her every night. “How did you get to the bar?” Via was surprised to find Sean at the bar earlier. “You said you wanted to go to the bar, so I took a business partner there after the meeting was over,” Sean replied as if it was normal, even though from Via's point of view, it made her blushed, because Sean didn't seem to want Via to go to the bar without him. “We can go there alone,” Via said unconsciously, until she pursed her lips and cursed herself because they weren't allowed to go out in public alone like an agreement. Sean was stunned, and only muttered incoherently, making Via's heart disappointed again. “What do you want to eat?” Sean asked changing the subject. “I ate before I went to the bar, if you're still hungry I can cook you something.”“No… no, I also ate at the meeting earlier.” The two of them entered the apartment, as soon as the door behind them closed, Sean immediately attacked Via's lips until she gasped, then locked her feminine body against the wall while Sean's big hands touched Via's unprepared body. “I've been holding back, you look so beautiful tonight,” Sean whispered in between their fondling sessions. He groaned and carried Via to the room.

Chapter 4 Chapter 4 I Wrong Thought

Via's eyes opened when she heard the alarm clock ringing, she felt to the other side and was disappointed to find the cold bed, a sign that Sean had left a long time ago. After muting the alarm, she sat down while her eyes stared blankly at the empty right side of the bed. Via's fingers touched the mattress where Sean usually sleep. She wanted him to be at her side and hug her as soon as she was awake. Rarely did they wake up together, usually Sean was the first to leave, leaving Via alone. “When will you really see me, not just as a body?” Via whispered with choking breaths holding back tears. She just wanted Sean to acknowledge her existence. Maybe not in this city, maybe somewhere else where no one knew. They could just be having fun outside, like a normal couple. A romantic dinner at a five-star restaurant, running on the beach, playing on a swing in the park, enjoying a vacation on a safari, kissing on a playground, or simply going to the cinema and shopping at the supermarket. But wishful thinking was just a dream, Via knew it couldn't happen. Sean didn't even want to take this relationship more than what was agreed upon, making Via gloomy again. She carried her body to the bathroom lazily, starting Saturday morning with sad feeling. ……………………….. The ringing of the cellphone disturbed Via's concentration, who was reading a novel. At first a smile graced her face, but then she bent down when she saw that Sean's name was not on the screen as Caller ID. “Hello, Auntie,” said Via, sounding disappointed. “Why, you don't like me calling?” asked her Aunt from across the connection. Via cleared her throat, controlling her voice. “Sorry, I thought it was my friend,” she half lied. “You always rejected me every time I call, not even once to ask how I'm doing. Did you forget to have a living family?” Aunt Azura always said bad things every time she contacted Via, that's why Via was reluctant to accept. “No, I don’t mean that, I'm just busy. My company is working on a lot of events right now,” explained Via, not lying this time, even though she didn't want to contact first. “Then I'm not busy, you mean? Even my shop is busy with the summer this year, so I need some extra power!” Via frowned at Aunt Azura's voice rising. “Families shouldn't forget each other, young woman. Your job is to notify me first, not the other way around. Or you don't want to see me anymore, do you? Is it because you're working in the city now that you're being arrogant?” Via wanted to just end the connection, but that would only infuriate her aunt. Her head even began to throb at the accusations after accusations that were not clear. “Auntie, I don't…” Before Via had finished speaking, Aunt Azura interrupted. “Listen to me first, you are really rude to old people! Where is your respect? It was hard for me to raise you but you didn't care once.” Tears welled up in her eyes, about to fall to hear her Aunt say such things. Via realized that Aunt Azura raised her when her mother couldn't afford it because of illness. Actually, Via also wanted to return the favor, but Aunt Azura's nature, who liked to say heart-wrenching words, made Via reluctant. “Auntie, I'm sorry. Next time I'll call without you calling first. I promise,” Via muttered, sounding guilty. Satisfied that her point was conveyed, Aunt Azura grumbled and lowered her voice. “Good, be a good girl. I'm old, if you don't pay attention to me, then who will? You don't even have to work in the city. I can hire you at the shop. Life in the city is hard.” Via was deafening. How many times had Aunt Azura asked her to work at the family shop, then downgraded Via's work in the city. Without even filtering the words, Aunt Azura accused Via of doing nothing because she managed to get into a well-known company. It really hurt her, but she couldn't help but fold her tongue, afraid of hurting Aunt Azura. “Okay Auntie, but I like working here,” Via said trying to be polite. On the other side came another groan which Via ignored. “Did you eat, Auntie?” The conversation that followed was more like a formality. For Via, living with Aunt Azura was very torturous, even though her Aunt was determined to pay for all of Via's needs since she was a teenager, until she unknowingly made her aunt reluctant to marry, which became a burden for Via. Several times Via blamed herself, maybe it was because of Via that Aunt Azura never married, but fortunately that old woman never hurt Via by mentioning words in that direction just once. After the communication ended, Via realized that the sun had risen. She also rushed to get ready to go to the supermarket to buy kitchen needs. Via's eyes stared at the dead phone screen, hoping for Sean to call, but the man seemed to have forgotten Via's existence, causing her to bow down weakly as she crossed the door. ………………………. Via selected several meat and vegetable products. She texted Sean what he wanted to cook, but none of the messages she sent got a reply, event hadn’t been read yet. More and more disappointed. After finishing selecting the meat, Via turned to the fruit rack, but her eyes fell on the figure of Sean standing near the cold drink. Via's smile grew, happy to meet there, she was about to move closer, but her steps stopped when she saw a woman approaching Sean who seemed busy choosing something. Never before had Via seen that woman, it made her heart throb in pain. The woman even touched Sean's shoulder in a familiar gesture as if they were so close. Now Via's heart wanted to jump, beating with a painful rhythm. Not to mention when Sean returned the woman's smile sensually, further stabbing Via's chest with thousands of daggers. Via had just stepped back to end the hurt, when suddenly Luna Star's operational manager, Daren Osbert, hugged the woman from behind. Both seemed to laugh and ignore Sean who shook his head, and accidentally turned to Via who was still frozen not far from there. Sean's eyes flashed in surprise as soon as their eyes were locked, Via's heart suddenly blossomed once Sean threw a faint smile at her, making Via relieved because it was just a prejudice. Sean's steps were about to lead to Via, but stopped when he realized they were no longer alone. Via also understood and replied to Sean with the same faint smile before walking in the opposite direction, away from them. Although filled with disappointment, Via knew herself. Sean was in control of their relationship. If the man said it was over, then their love chapter was forcibly ended. Although with heavy-hearted, Via decided to go home to calm down herself. On the way, Via's cell phone rang, indicating a notification had just arrived. Still feeling lazy, Via opened the cellphone indifferently and then read the message at a glance, but her heart pounded when she saw the sender's name listed. [Sean: Whatever you cook I'll eat it. I'll leave today's dinner menu to you, Chef.] He said those sweet words , making Via chuckle getting a call from Chef, it was a tease. [Sean: By the way, you look really pretty in that lemon yellow dress. Is that new? I've never seen you in that dress before.] Via's face turned red, realizing that Sean was always paying attention to what she was wearing and had memorized the patterns of almost all the clothes in the closet. [Sean: Daren is celebrating his birthday with his girlfriend, they invited me to eat together, luckily you asked for today's menu, I almost accepted it.] Via's heart was relieved, because it was just a misunderstanding, and Via's smile was getting wider because Sean preferred to be with her. [Sean: Take care of your health, don't be too tired.  I don’t want you'll be sick again.] The messages were sent sequentially in close time, making Via's smile widened uncontrollably.  Even the surroundings turning pink, earned praise that was rarely given. For some reason, lately Sean liked to throw compliments that tossed Via into the air. After arriving at the apartment, Via also replied to the messages one by one.

Chapter 5 Chapter 5 I Attention

Monday morning, Via felt unwell again. She decided to take one day off. Sean looked at her worriedly, reluctant to go to the office when he found Via lying on their bed. He also persuaded her to go to the doctor, but she refused because the hospital traumatized her. Sean who knew that Via was afraid of the hospital, finally chose not to force her. “Yes Daren,” said Sean while occasionally glancing at Via who was listening from the bed. “I can't make it to the office today,” he continued, telling Daren over the phone. “Hmm… hmm… yup, Oh, Okay, alright,” Sean mumbled then walked out into his study. Seeing Sean's back disappearing behind the door, Via took a deep breath. At first she thought Sean didn't care and went to work leaving her alone, but she was wrong. Her heart fluttered as soon as Sean contacted the operations manager that he was taking a day off. A few moments later Sean returned to the room, there was no phone in hand which was replaced by a bowl of porridge. He smiled at her then walked over to the bed. “I will take care of you today. I asked Daren to replace me at Luna Star temporarily,” Sean explained even though Via didn't ask. Lately, Sean had been doing things that were out of the ordinary. “Do you want to eat it yourself or you want me to feed you?” Seeing Sean about to spoon the porridge, Via got up and asked for the bowl of porridge. “I can feed you,” Sean persuaded suddenly. For a moment, Via was stunned, her face was red. Getting Sean's pleading gaze, Via also didn't want to refuse. A spoonful meal slipped into her mouth, etching a smile on his handsome face.  Until the last bite, he still seemed reluctant to leave. “What do you want to do today?” Via asked as Sean while he put the empty bowl on the table. “I'll do something in the living room, you just take rest. I'll wake you up as soon as lunch arrives,” he said while landing a kiss on her forehead. “Don't give a frown, if you weren't sick, I definitely wouldn't want to get out of bed.” After getting a love pinch that Via gave, Sean left the room laughing. What's more, Via's face turned red, not because of a fever, but because Sean's flirty words. A few hours later, Via woke up again, and glanced at the clock on the table showing eleven o'clock. She couldn't afford to go back to sleep, so she decided to clean up and find Sean afterwards. He looked busy at the dining table with a pile of papers in hand and a laptop on the table. His head lifted when he saw Mia's presence as she entered the room. “Hey,” Sean greeted seeing Via's face refreshed after a good rest. “Hey,” Via replied, closer and landed a kiss on his cheek. “You're so busy.” Sean shook his head, “Not really. Only a few reports that can still be checked next time. I just finished my work.”  He stood up while tidying the table. Via checked the refrigerator and was about to prepare lunch when she felt Sean's arms wrap around her from behind. “No need to cook, I'll order something,” Sean whispered as he left kiss after kiss from neck to shoulder. Via's body shook, receiving Sean's hot lips. “But I want to do something. Resting makes me bored,” Via said in the middle of the fondling. Sean sighed and let go of the hug. “Okay, I'll help. What do you need?” he asked, taking in the contents of the refrigerator in front of them. After deciding on the materials to be used, the two of them worked side by side in a solemn and silent atmosphere, the only sound being heard was knives on the cutting board, and the rustling of water and oil in a frying pan. After the food was ready to be served, the two of them ate in the TV room while enjoying the romance movie that Via chose. While chewing, Sean occasionally commented on scene after scene that made no sense to him. “Believe me, they will broken up,” he said seeing the couple's bickering on the plasma screen. Via laughed when Sean's prediction came true. “You're more suited to be a commentator.”“The film is predictable, and the plot is too mainstream,” said Sean, seeing the unsatisfactory ending. Sean pressed his body with Via as soon as they finished their lunch, while his hand stroked her arm and shoulder even though his eyes were focused on watching the show. “Wanna see another movie?” Sean's offer was approved by Via. “You're right, the movie wasn't great.” After switching channels, Via leaned back on the sofa and laid her head on Sean's broad shoulders. Her slender fingers played with his t-shirt with lazy movements. This time, they watch a film about a country woman who achieved her dreams in a big city. After half way through the movie, Sean couldn't help but ask. “You said you wanted to own a bakery,” Sean whispered when Via was getting sleepy until her eyelids were half closed. “Yes, and you've known this from the moment we met.” Via wanted to laugh remembering the large amount of bread sent to the apartment in the early days of their relationship. “Are you still refusing my offer?”“I still don't want you to keep helping me, this bakery is my dream and I wanted to build it from my own hand, Sean.” Sean offered several times, but also so many times Via refused. For her, Sean's presence was enough. Not long ago, Via also felt disturbed by the news in the media about the woman who was rumored to be engaged to him, but Via chose silence rather than asking. “Go to sleep, I'll clean this up,” said Sean ending the conversation. That night, Via woke up and found Sean from next door. His muttering voice sounded faintly from the direction of the living room. After washing her face, Via intended to catch up with Sean, and also she felt hungry. Once across the room, Via accidentally heard Sean say something that made her steps stop. “I'll be home in a few days Eve, we can meet there.” Even though it didn't sound like a whisper, Via felt her heart throb like being pinched. Hearing the name of another woman who became Sean's partner in every gossip turned out to make her heart totally broken. “Yeah, I'll tell Mom. Are you home too?” For some reason, hearing the interaction between the two, the more convincing Via that Sean and Evelyn had such a close relationship. “Hmm… hmm… I miss you too.  Let me know when you arrive.” Via's heart trembled at Sean's tone which said he missed another woman. During this time he had not once uttered a word that showed feelings such as longing, or a small call, for example, dear, baby, or the like. Via's heart was bleeding hearing Sean's low voice when he said those words to the woman on the other side. Knowing her position, Via braced herself, put on a fake smile hoping that Sean wouldn't notice, and prepared to leave the room as soon as Sean ended the phone call. Via deliberately walked by stomping her feet, making a little sound to let her know where she was. “Hey,” Sean greeted seeing Via leave the room with a sleepy face. “Hey, I'm hungry,” Via replied with a small, slightly forced smile, hoping that her smile would look natural in Sean's eyes. “I ordered your favorite dish. Come with me,” he said with an unusually gentle look. For a moment, Via felt as if Sean's eyes flashed love, but she brushed it off because after hearing the way he was talking to Evelyn, Via couldn't believe her own eyes anymore. Sean led Via to the dining room, then they enjoyed their dinner in silence. Via was full of her own thoughts, while Sean didn’t notice it.

Chapter 6 Chapter 6 I Pillow Talk

Via asked what Sean wanted to eat that afternoon, but he only said that he wanted to eat chicken, so she decided to cook soup. Today Sean also hadn't allowed her to go back to work, so she filled her boredom by doing anything. But, when she was watching a drama on television, again the news about Sean and Evelyn filled the screen, so she turned off the plasma screen with her heart holding back tears. She became upset every time she watched television, so she decided not to turn on the twenty-nine inch television until nightfall. After the chicken soup was cooked, suddenly Via heard the sound of the door being opened. Not long after that, Sean appeared from living room. He smiled at her who was still wrinkled in her faded pink apron. “I can smell it from the parking lot,” Sean teased. Via laughed because the distance between the parking lot and their unit was very far. It was impossible to smell it all the way to the basement. “Get ready, I'll serve dinner.” Sean kissed her cheek before going to his room. Seeing Sean’s back disappear from sight, Via's tears fell to the table. She wiped it quickly, afraid of being caught crying for no reason. Fifteen minutes later, Sean returned to the dining table where dinner was already served with a fresh appearance after taking a shower, his black hair was wet and messy after washing his hair.  He approached with his eyes looking at her full of admiration and gratitude. “You always know what I want to eat every night,” Sean said as he took the first bite. Via only smiled a bit while also enjoying her dinner. “Feel better?” Sean put the back of his hand on Via's forehead, which turned out to be a normal temperature. “Much better than yesterday, I guess,” Via replied, lying a little, because sometimes she still feels nauseous and had joint pain. Both of them ate again in silence, the only sound was the sound of spoons and forks colliding with plates. ** Sean gently kissed Via's forehead once his desire was done. He pulled his weight off her and slept on his back while one arm was still wrapped around her body, as if he didn't want to let go of their skin contact. “I went with Daren to the bakery he recommended yesterday, I forgot to bring some bread for you. Next time, let’s go there together,” said Sean who was starting to get sleepy. “That's okay. We can go there if you have  time,” Via replied, just as tired. “Do you still want me to lend you the money to build your dream bakery?” Via's heart swelled with joy because Sean remembered her dream to have her own bakery. They often discussed about Via's dream bakery. Maybe even Sean already knew the design that Via always wanted for her bakery. “No need, I still want to work at Luna Star. Let that dream come true after I retire.” “There's nothing wrong with opening that bakery while you're working with me,” Sean suggested again which Via refused without a second thought. “I'm very grateful that you thought of my dream, but I just feel it’s wrong to borrow money from you. You've been of great help so far.” Via understood that their relationship was nothing more than a business transaction. She didn't want Sean to help her out of fear that Sean would think she was with him just for the sake of material things. A small favor at first had now become a big one. Even half the medical expenses when her mother was still alive, Sean also helped. She didn't need to be reminded that it wasn't a romantic relationship. “Okay, tell me if one day you really want to build your own bakery.” Not wanting to prolong the discussion, Via gave a nod as if she agreed to the contrary. “What is the logo for your dream bakery?” Sean asked. “A pair of doves,” Via answered confidently. Sean's brows furrowed at Via's unusual answer. “Why doves?” “I don't know, I just like the philosophy. Doves have one partner for life, bread love is very fitting to use pigeons as a brand logo.” Sean chuckled softly at the name of the bakery. “Spread Love's play into Bread Love doesn't make sense.” “But I like to hear it, just try saying Bread Love, it’s ear-catchy, right?” Via said firmly. A kiss landed on her luscious lips. “Okay, okay.  I believe, Bread Love ...” Sean laughed while stealing a kiss from her lips again. He relented with her stubbornness. * The news of Sean's engagement was getting louder, but Via didn't dare to ask about the news.  Afraid of Sean's answer that could hurt her heart. In the office, the cafeteria, and even the hotel corridor, the gossip about Sean and Evelyn's wedding was no longer contained. Everyone seemed not to miss the news that Via believed was not entirely true. “I've seen you lethargic lately. What happen?” asked Kezia as they went to the receptionist to hand over the daily checklist. “I'm not, I’m just tired of working on the monthly report,” Via replied with a thin smile on her lips covering a troubled heart. “If you want to talk, I'm listening.” Via gave a grateful look to Kezia who sounded concerned. Her steps stopped when she saw Sean and the rest of the Executive group passed in front of them. He looked busy talking to Daren who was walking beside. For a moment, their eyes met, but as before, Sean quickly looked away. As if he didn't recognize if Via crossed the path. Via's heart felt pinched, because Sean Reviano during the day was not her Sean Reviano at night.  His attitude was the opposite, as if he had two personalities. By day, Sean was a stranger to her, while at night Sean was so close to her veins. “See, how women aren't crazy about him,” whispered Kezia while pointing at Sean with a pointed chin. Via cleared her throat and replied, “He's just perfect, it's hard to forget a man like that.” “That's right,” Kezia replied with a sigh, “What a lucky woman to marry him.” Via's heart confirmed, the woman was really lucky. Whoever she was, the universe had rewarded her with the most perfect man on earth. Loving, caring, knowing to satisfy women in bed, even though he had a heart as cold as snow, but Sean Reviano was not easy to compare or forget.  Imagine if the man's heart was as warm as coals, all women might melt at his feet. ** Via saw Sean's arrival through the foyer. She waited quietly on the sofa when he entered the room. For a moment, Sean's brows knitted to find Via who was not as usual waiting in the dining room. “Any problem?” asked Sean approaching worriedly. Via shook her head while giving a faint smile on her lips, not like the usual one that bloomed perfectly when she saw his arrival. “I was just thinking.”“About?” Via took a deep breath and exhaled slowly. “About us.” Now, it was Sean's face that looked confused. “What's the matter with us?” Via's throat tightened to say something. “Gossip about your engagement to a woman is widespread in the hotel, even the media is talking about it. Don't you want to explain to me?” Via's eyes stared at Sean full of uncertainty. There was a pause in the air as Sean fell silent. “That's none of your business,” said Sean, finally breaking Via's heart into pieces. Via could feel the sound of cracks in her chest, the stinging heat made her a little tight. What Via was afraid of all this time, Sean also said. Not her business, he said. How could it be none of her business when they were so intimate? At least, it was appropriate for her to ask their relationship in the future. Could it be that Sean would forever keep her as a mistress? Oh no. Via refused to be called a mistress. Much better as a secret woman. “I have the right to know where I stand if there are other women present in this relationship,” Via said softly with her face lowered sadly. She deliberately hid her face, afraid that Sean would see her hurt expression. “Just focus on your career. Don't listen to fake news. I don't want to talk about it now, my head is full of other thoughts. I also have to go back to my parents' house tomorrow, after I come back, we will talk again.” Without saying anything after that, Sean left her who was still stunned on the sofa. The sound of the door closing made Via realize that Sean was no longer with her. He left herself out of the apartment instead of going to his usual room whenever there was an argument. Those beautiful eyes filled with tears after he left. Really, Via refused the tears that were about to fall. Now she felt much more lonely than before with him.

Chapter 7 Chapter 7 I He Has Two Numbers

Sean didn't come home today. He gave an excuse that he was going to unpack the luggage in his private penthouse which Via never once set foot. From the very beginning of the affair, Sean gave her a private apartment. At first, he visited only when needed, then left again without sleeping together, returning to the private residence without waiting for morning. But over time he settled there with her. At first, it only stayed for a day or two, without being felt for months. Sean would go back to his hometown tomorrow for visiting his parents. But not just a regular visit, during lunch at the cafeteria, Via also heard that a model woman named Evelyn Madini lived in the same complex as Sean. Rumors spread that the CEO might want to hold an engagement because their parents' houses were next door. “How did you know they were going to make an engagement?” Amber asked curiously. Altha as the source of the gossips explained, “Some time ago, Mr. CEO ordered a two-carat diamond ring. Yesterday the ring arrived, and he immediately carried it in his trouser pocket.  His face is also very happy, like someone who’s head over heels. What is it if not glad tidings for a proposal?” All the women at the table simultaneously sighed with admiration mixed with envy at Evelyn Madini. Many of them who wanted to replace the position of this model. Via's feelings were even more shaken when she heard he ordered diamond ring. Didn't think Sean would go that far without ending their relationship before moving on. She thought Sean would be single forever, as he had committed before their affair began. Or was it just her who innocently accepted that Sean Reviano would not marry someone of his social status? Was it true that the heart was easily turned over? After all, this was a matter of socialite political romanticism, where Sean only married the estranged one with him. “Enough, don't spread hoax anymore,” said Kezia trying to end. Because for her, it was not good to talk about superiors in the work environment. “This is definitely true, I’m sure. Mr. CEO has never smiled about a diamond ring. The news in the media also supports the reason for the ring,” said Altha confirming their assumption. “It has nothing to do with us if he gets married, let's just not add more.” Kezia didn't want to lose.  “Every day, Mr. CEO is always the subject of discussion, while we still have many other interesting topics to talk.” Amber interrupted and didn't want to be left behind, “No wonder he becomes the object of conversation, he looks like a celebrity with the media spotlight.” Via placed a hand on Kezia's thigh, restraining her partner from retaliating for something that couldn't be won. “Kei, looks like I forgot to request calibration data from Hadley. Maybe he's back from the meeting, please accompany me to his room.” Kezia held her tongue, and nodded even though she didn't want to move. That was right, it was useless to argue if the other person was as hard as her. Both of them said goodbye and left the cafeteria with different feelings. *** Via just returned to the apartment soon after she got a message from Sean saying he had just left for his hometown. Via had called several times, but his cell phone was not active. The next day at the office, she did not see Sean in the lobby or corridor as usual. Only then was Via sure they were no longer in the same city. Three days went by, but Sean didn't even say a word. In her heart, Via realized what she was only his secret woman. It was not his job to keep Via informed all the time, and it was not her right to demand his attention. Their relationship existed because they needed each other.  Physical attachments were fragile and could waver at any time. It was already day seven, but Sean hadn't come back. Even a piece of news seemed impossible for Via to get. Until she was tired of fiddling with Sean's number, calling tirelessly day and night to which the operator only answered in a cheerful voice saying the number she had dialed could not be reached. Via was just sitting in the cafeteria, deliberately looking for an empty seat in the corner, when suddenly a mob of gossip queens swarmed her table. She didn't know what made them stick to her, as if wherever she went, the group of women went by themselves. “Did you hear the news this morning?” Amber asked starting their gossip. “What news?” greeted by Altha, Cece and others. “The CEO joined hands with Evelyn at the gala dinner last night,” answered Amber enthusiastically. Via's heart was torn in two. Her chest was hurt when she heard the news. “They've often been together. See? Even in this week, both of them have attended same events for three times, plus a romantic dinner together at a five-star restaurant. Look at the intimacy that they showed at dinner, this is a photo taken by papparazi.” As usual Cece showed off her cellphone screen to their group. Via refused to look, she was not sure that her broken heart could be put back together, just a moment ago she heard the crack in her heart that would soon turn into shards of rubble. “Gosh… what a perfect match!” They shouted together. Without realizing it, Via’s hand clenched into fists, squeezing the black span skirt she was wearing. “Do you know when Mr. CEO will be back?”  asked Amber still admiring Sean's pictures. Altha nodded while swallowing the toast. “He said in two weeks when the business was finished.  He could work from there taking care of the work here.” Via's head lifted to hear that explanation. Her heart was pounding to ask something, “When did he call?”“He calls to the office everyday, so he can take care of all the business here. I also sent a report via email, this has become a procedure when he is absent.” Via was shocked to hear that. All this time, she thought Sean really didn't have time to hold his phone, but it turned out that he just didn't have time for her. But how could Sean contact the office if the number was never active, making Via suspected that Sean didn't only have one number. Her eyes were filled with sad emotion, but she held back so that no one would suspect anything. “Our CEO is indeed a hard worker,” said Amber whose admiration was increasing. “That's right, he also asked the employees one by one. Aaaah, what a dream CEO,” Altha added. The conversation continued to flow where the topic was not far from the ideal CEO. Since then, Via had been silent, becoming a listener team whose heart was no longer in shape with the amount of information she received. As soon as the group exited the cafeteria, Via grabbed Altha's arm and tried to act casual. “I want to report something to Mr. CEO, may I have the number?” Via put on a flat face like a professional, to show that it was only for work requirements. Althea didn't immediately agree. She considered first before deciding to give the number. “The number is 0…….” The new number was programmed into Via's cell phone, and the two decided to separate once they arrived at the lobby. Via, whose heart has not calmed down since lunch time, finally decided to go to the women's restroom. She looked at the cell phone number on the screen for a long time.  Her shoulders drooped as she realized that it was a different number. She didn't dare call out, her heart shattered at the fact that Sean had purposely ignored her existence. Without feeling her tears flowing uncontrollably, she sobbed on the toilet seat. Thinking of unrequited love, plus the owner of her heart was happy with another woman and didn't care about her in the slightest. Just never asked how she was, maybe she wasn't in his head either.

Chapter 8 Chapter 8 I Two Blue Lines

Via bought some kitchen necessities at the supermarket. Even though Sean wasn't around, Via's love of cooking didn't stop her from making a menu of the food Sean liked. When in the sea food area, Via suddenly felt nauseous so she avoided it. Even she was nauseous as soon as she smelled the meat, making her reflexively move away from the drinking area. Via kept calculating the time of her period. For a moment, she felt her body tense because there was something odd about her monthly cycle that she didn't notice. She took the five test packs that were lined up on the shelves and decided to quickly get out of the supermarket, but her steps were stopped when her eyes caught the tabloid that was plastered on Sean's face as the main headline. Unconsciously, Via approached the tabloid and read the title in bold print:  Evelyn Madini and Sean Reviano's romance. Without being able to take her eyes off Sean’s perfect portrait on the cover of the tabloid, Via reads the contents. It told the story between Sean and Evelyn who look intimately hand in hand while walking together in a park, even the portrait of their affection was clearly displayed on every page. Sean who held Evelyn's hand while crossing the street, Sean who smiled hearing Evelyn speak, Sean who looked happy was standing side by side with Evelyn. Wherever Sean was, Via could clearly describe how sweet that smile was, how Sean's face was bright when he was happy, or his eyes smile when he heard a funny joke.  Everything was clearly engraved in Via's sharp memory, but it hurt a lot when it was all on another woman. Tears gathered in the corners of Via’s eyes, but she refused to let them fall. She still couldn't believe Sean had forgotten her without explaining anything, but the evidence that he was slowly ignoring and deliberately avoiding her was enough to hurt. In fact, Via could not linger to see Sean with another woman even if only through the portraits on paper. “Look, they're so perfect each other,” said the woman who suddenly stood next door. Via just smile slightly and put the tabloid back in its original place. “Are you also their fan?” Via swallowed the tears that were about to spill. “Ah… that… I was just looking,” Via answered awkwardly. “Don't be ashamed to admit that you are heartbroken to see such a handsome and rich CEO finally getting married. I'm heartbroken too, and so are millions of women. The single most coveted man has finally found his soulmate, how lucky is Evelyn.” The woman laughed as she took the tabloid to take to the cashier. Via froze at the place after the woman left. Realizing that so far no one had known of her presence in Sean's life. Not once was she in the same frame with Sean Reviano. Via wanted to shout at this woman, that before Evelyn, there was Via warming Sean Reviano's bed, who cooked his favorite dinner, who prepared his work suit every morning, who welcomed him home with a smile even though she was tired. There was Via who had accompanied Sean Reviano for one year. Sean was just hiding her whereabouts. Via felt defeated now, because Sean really didn't want the public to know about her. With that one painful fact, Via walked away with her groceries to the cashier with her shoulders down languidly. *** Via sat limply on the apartment bathroom floor while looking at the two-lined test pack. What a hard reality for her to accept when her relationship with Sean had no future. Frustrated, she thought about the fate of the baby in her womb, and was afraid of Sean's reaction to rejecting her presence. Still confused, Via dialed the only number she was leaning on. “Hellooo,” said a voice from the other side in a cheerful tone like a normal greeting when Via called. “Hello…?”  The voice began to sound confused when Via didn't make a sound either. “Via?”  asked Disya in amazement. Via's tears fell down her cheeks without permission until suppressed sobs could be heard on the other side of the line. “What's wrong Via? Why are you crying? Tell me,” Disya asked, sounding anxious with a worried tone. “I… I'm pregnant,” she sobbed louder. For a moment, all the sounds around were silent, except for the continuous sobs that escaped Via's lips. Including the static sound from the connection that connected the conversation, as if participating in a suffocating dilemma. “I am pregnant.” The cry grew louder, unstoppable and uncontrollable like the roar of a wounded woman. “I am pregnant.” Via repeated it again and again as if there was no other word before, finally pouring out her pent up heart. Disya listened to one by one the list of sins of a Sean Reviano from Viania's confession. The list was getting longer, so that Disya coud feel the depth of the wound that Via had suffered. They cried together, sobbing holding pain in the chest. One rule had been broken. No Pregnancy. No offer. Via soon would be blown away from Sean Reviano's life. Deep down, Via could feel that time would come soon. She was very afraid of facing Sean’s anger, but her conscience was more afraid of Sean deciding unilaterally the fate of the baby in her womb. Motherly instincts slowly enveloped Via who did not want to give up. Her mind confirmed that even without Sean, she could raise the baby. “You better tell Sean about your condition, Via,” Disya suggested, which made Via tremble in fear. “I can't,” she whispered doubtfully. “Via, tell him. If he refuses, we'll think of a way together.” Via looked at the number Altha gave, intending to call Sean from that number. “I will try.” In the end, her conscience triumphed over her fear of uncertainty. Both of them disconnected. Via's fingers hesitated to press the call button on Sean's new number. Her heart trembled with fear at his reaction. At first, there was only the ringing tone of the call being connected, but then there was an increasingly painful rejection for Via, but she did not give up. When the third call was not received, Via decided to send a message. [It's me, Viania.  I tried to call you several times but you didn't pick up, so I decided to send a message. Sorry for not waiting until you get home, because I'm so scared right now. Call me ASAP.] Via waited a few minutes before finally getting a reply. [Where did you get this number from?] Via was a bit relieved to read the reply, because finally she was able to contact Sean even though she again felt sad to realize the fact that Sean had actually deactivated the number he used to call just to avoid it. [From the people in the office.] Via answered languidly, because the reply she got was not asking how she was but the number.  This time, Via couldn't hold back her tears from falling down her cheeks. [I'm busy, I'll call you later.] Via's heart was sliced reading the message, instead of asking what Via was afraid of, or how she was, or maybe what she was doing while he was away, but she got a reply to gently tell Via not to call anymore. The hurt feelings were replaced by anger, she didn't care if she conveyed the news of pregnancy through messages. For her, the sooner she gave the news, the sooner her curiosity was satisfied with Sean's answer. After  a few minutes later, Via sent a message again. [I'm pregnant, Sean.] Long time waiting for a reply.  It felt like this heart was beating so fast as if it was about to leave her body until Via decided to sit on the sofa, afraid of falling if she continued to stand nervously.  Almost ten minutes of waiting, the awaited reply arrived. However, Via's body felt crushed when she read what the message contained. The phone in her hand fell to the floor breaking the screen. In a split second, Via's heart stopped. Via turned around and without realizing it, she was crying loudly like her heart was slashed with a knife.  Pain without bleeding. The message on her cracked phone screen was still on with the message written on it: [get rid of it, I don't have time for you.]

Chapter 9 Chapter 9 I Better Go

Disya accompanied Via who looked devastated until her beautiful face looked pale as if she had no desire to continue living. Seeing the depression that was clearly visible on her best friend's face, Disya sat down in front of Via whose eyes were staring. She looked at the cell phone whose screen was shattered lying on the floor. Her hands were shaking as she took the phone. Her heart believed the contents of the message on the cellphone were the reason Via was in a void state. Right as she expected, Sean's message also made Disya hurt, she even felt a burning anger. How dare that man hurt her best friend and throw her away like trash?! Disya didn't accept it, she really wouldn't forgive him. “Via, oh ... Via,” Disya sobbed while stroking her friend's swollen face. Via's eyes stared blankly at the wall, her tears dried, there were only traces of those tears. “He doesn't want me,” Via whispered hoarsely and lowly. “He doesn't want this baby.”“Oh... Via.”  Disya didn't know what to say, she could only feel the pain of her best friend. The two of them sat on the floor for a long time, lost in the same sadness. “What should I do?” The question sounded more like people were desperate than looking for an answer. “What about taking a vacation, and calm down away from the city? Just you and me,” Disya tried to persuade Via and trying to sound tough. She pulled Via to stand up from where she was and took her to the room. Via lay down on the bed, and let Disya did whatever she wanted without even looking at her best friend. Disya was about to call Sean's number listed on her cellphone, but she tried her best not to do it because it would only increase the width of the wound. So without realizing it, she turned off the phone and put it in a drawer. Disya decided to join in the bed with Via and hugged her best friend who was in a state as if her body and soul were separated. The two of them were silent without the slightest sound until they fell asleep to close the day. ** Via entered her superior room at Luna Star. The man in front of Via looked at her with a confused look when she suddenly handed over the resignation letter. “You want resign? Are you sure?” asked Hadley. Via gave a thin smile, a smile that did not reach the eyes. Her face looked puffy, even though it was covered with make-up, it was still clearly visible. What's more, her body gestures were not as cheerful as usual. “I've thought it through. Sorry to resign suddenly, but this is just a personal reason and has nothing to do with the company,” Via said in a low voice slightly bowed. Hadley sighed with his shoulders slightly bent down.  He nodded without being able to hold Via whose determination was round. “I wish you could wait until the CEO comes home, but I can't seem to hold you back any longer.  So, all right. Report to HRD before packing your things. Hand over all your documents and work to Kezia before leaving,” Hadley explained while allowing Via to leave the room. Via thanked Hadley before leaving. While tidying things up on the desk, Kezia ran over and looked at Via confusedly, slightly disappointed. “What is it? Why did you resign?” Kezia asked in a slightly panicked tone. “Yeah, just my personal reason. I am sorry, I can’t explain,” replied Via, still busy putting things that belong to her in the box. “Then what about me? I can do nothing without you, you know?” Kezia held Via's hand who was about to put a figure into the box. “Via, don't be like this. Please don't go, who else will accompany me to lunch.” Kezia shamelessly cried while holding Via's arm hanging in the air. Sadness covered Via. At first, she thought there was no longer any emotion in her shattered soul, but it turned out that she still had more sadness. “I'm sorry,” Via whispered with a tear falling down her left cheek. She put her figure down and pulled Kezia in a hug. Thinking that this might be the last time she saw a coworker who actually cared about her. “But I can't be in this hotel anymore, you have to be alone. I'm sure your career will have a good progress later, even you can take my position.” Kezia's hug tightened. They just hugged for a while before Via finally decided to leave and said goodbye to her other colleagues with teary eyes leaving Luna Star. Outside the building, she stared at the towering building. Recalling her early days of innocence.  How naively her dreamed that she could make Sean Reviano fell in love and made her as his priority. That man was no different from other men who were only looking for a body as a sleeping partner. His mouth was so sweet that Via was deceived by the warmth he showed. All of that was nothing more than a play that he ran as a talented actor, until Via unknowingly gave up her whole heart. Via looked down and walked away from Luna Star, hoping this was the last time she would hear Sean Reviano's name, then erased the man's memory from her head and heart. ** Disya helped Via packing her clothes into the suitcase. They worked in silence while tidying up Via's personal equipment that she didn't want to leave. Two hours later, not a single trace of Via's belongings ever filled the luxury apartment.  Everything looked as neat as the first time Via set foot there. Via's memory brought her back to the memory of the first time Sean took her there while kissing her non-stop as if he was never satisfied with touching. His warm hands were never far from her body, even Sean deliberately lingered in the apartment before finally leaving for work. There were so many sweet memories in the apartment that did not belong to her personally, but now the apartment looked gloomy after being filled with wounds last night. She gripped the doorknob tightly before exiting. The sound of the door closing seemed to end her relationship with Sean and close their memories tightly in a room that now felt strange to Via. With heavy steps while inhaling, Via gave up everything, letting go of something that never belong to her. As Sean said when he asked her to move into the apartment. “This place is a temporary home for you, stay here so I can visit anytime.” Yes, the apartment was only temporary. Now Via understood what Sean meant. She had been so deaf before, not once digesting his words.  Feeling herself like Cinderella. But in reality, she was nothing more than a mistress. How naive. Disya pulled Via's hand, which was still frozen in front of the apartment door, looking at her reluctantly. “Come on Via, the time has arrived,” said Disya carefully as she pulled her best friend away from the place full of memories. Via ran on auto pilot, with her head full of memories replaying over and over, although in the end she followed Disya who led her to the elevator, leaving everything she thought was a false future.

Chapter 10 Chapter 10 I Sean Reviano

Several Days Ago On Sean Reviano POV … Sean stared at the phone screen containing texts from his parents that asking when he would be coming home. For a moment, he looked at the employees who were meeting together in the meeting room. He put the phone back in and glanced at Via who was tucking her long hair behind her ear. Sean's eyes couldn't take his eyes off Via's beautiful face looking down at the report, but his logic prevailed a step until he was relieved to look away. Slightly clearing his throat, Sean gathered attention. “Where were we?”“Our hotel rating and review report on the booking room platform, sir. I think ….” The meeting continued, but Sean's eyes couldn't take his eyes off Via who was explaining about the Luna Star Hotel review report which was slightly down from the previous month. In the middle of the session, Sean found out that Via was daydreaming. In order to appear professional and not favoritism, Sean rebuked her. “Via?”  called Sean as the woman began to lose focus. “Viania Harper!” called him again. Until the third call, Via still didn't look up which made Sean a little worried. With a calm face as usual, Sean called Via last time because he was uncomfortable when he started to hear whispering voices from around. “Via!” Via gasped, obviously taken aback that she wasn't listening.  She looked down in shame, which made Sean feel a little guilty. “Via, I've been calling you. Are you feeling unwell?”“I haven't been feel well since this afternoon,” Via replied, looking reluctant and continued, “Sorry for disturbing your concentration.” The mere presence of Via was enough to make Sean lose his concentration, but of course he wouldn't answer that. “No … no, if you are not strong enough to attend the meeting, you can take a rest.”“Ask permission if you feel unwell before the meeting begins.” Now he felt worried even though Via said otherwise. Sean's eyes continued to watch Via who was still attending the meeting as he opened the document he just described.  “Back to the meeting, I want us to improve Luna Star's service and….” ** Daren just walked into Sean's study at Luna Star. His friend approached while carrying a pile of documents. “I heard from aunt that you're going back to Blueberry Hill,” Daren said as he placed the pile of documents on the table. Sean seemed reluctant to explain, but in the end he just nodded. “Mom asked me to come home,” he said.  “I'm only at Blueberry for a while, then I'm going to Michigan to finish a project which Dad gave me two years ago.” Daren's face seemed interested in joining. “I want to join in too.” One sharp glance from Sean was able to silence Daren's mouth which had no brakes. “You think I want to work on that project? Even Luna Star still needs guidance, my Dad wants to build a new hotel in Michigan. I told him to hold off until Luna Star stabilized, he flatly refused.  What a stubborn old man!” Sean muttered as he read the documents that Daren brought one by one. “Isn't that a playground project?” Now Daren was confused by the change of plans. “Since when did it turn into a hotel?” Sean closed the document he was reading and looked back at Daren. “Ever since Nicko Anderson announced he'd be building a playground not far from where my dad had planned it.” This time Sean couldn't hide his annoyance. His usual calm face turned cloudy. “Oh my, you can build in a new place.” “It's not that easy, doing re-research will only add to the cost. Plus I don't want to have anything to do with the mafia.” Remembering that Nicko Anderson was part of the Italian mafia was no easy feat, and Sean knew the consequences of dealing with people like them. “I'm hungry, let's eat out,” Daren whined which gave Sean a headache. Sean put back the paperwork he almost signed, but considering that fussy Daren was more annoying than finishing the pile of paperwork, he decided to have lunch before his time. * “Where are you taking me?”  Sean asked as soon as they reached the shopping center. “My favorite bakery, you insisted to be invited here. Did you forget?” Hearing the word bakery, Sean came out first, making Daren chuckle.  He didn't understand why his best friend liked to visit every bakery in town. Sean first arrived in the shop, he looked around carefully, like a team of appraisers who paid attention to every detail of the building. “Hey, we're here to buy not to poke holes in every wall,” Daren whispered as they were glared at by the shopkeeper. As if he didn't care, Sean shrugged his shoulders as he continued his original assessment. He even paid close attention to every menu on display. Throwing a lot of questions about the basic ingredients of the pastries there, made Daren feel bad for the shopkeeper. “Are you buying or are you planning a new business?” To Daren the last question made more sense. “What do you think is the success percentage of a bakery business of this size?” Sean asked suddenly, Daren was about to answer when Sean answered the question himself. “I think it's quite profitable with the right exposure. After all, she also doesn't care if her cakes sells or not.” Now it was Daren who was confused. “Who?” Sean waved his hand in the air, ignoring the question just now and then innocently ordering the many cakes that were on display in the display case. Almost all as a sample. “Just say you don't want to talk, don't wave your hand impolitely,” Daren snorted as he hit Sean's hand which was still in the air. With a satisfied smile, Sean looked at Daren while carrying groceries. “Let me know when you find a new shop,” he said as he walked away leaving Daren who hadn't ordered anything. ** Sean replied messages from his mother one by one. He let her know when he would arrive at Blueberry Hill. As he was about to leave the room, his phone rang. He thought his mother was calling, without looking at the caller Id, Sean picked up the call. “Hello,” he said. “Hello, Sean. It's me Eve. I heard from your aunt that you are coming home, why not tell me?”  Evelyn asked in her usual spoiled voice. Sean laughed at that and refused to leave the room. “Sorry, I thought you were very busy. I'll be home in two days, we'll just meet there. Right now I'm very busy Eve,” explained Sean not wanting to keep his subordinates waiting in the meeting room. He looked at his watch which showed that the meeting was about to start. “I'll call when I have time,” Sean offered, which Evelyn did not accept. “Can't you tell them to wait? It feels like we haven't spoken in a long time,” the girl whispered from the other side. “I can't, Eve. Respect their time, I can't just cancel a meeting just because you want to talk.”  It sounded harsh, but Sean didn't want Evelyn to get used to it. From the tone of her voice, Sean could hear her frowning. “Alright, understanding CEO. Call me when you have time, okay?” Sean laughed at the joke. He agreed before finally disconnecting. Sean had just opened the door when his personal secretary suddenly called out in a cheerful voice that made Sean frown. “Sir, a package just arrived!” shout the woman as she jogged around in high heels that made a noise when they hit the floor. Sean's face brightened when he remembered the diamond ring he ordered that arrived today. His hands quickly took the package from Altha's outstretched grip. “Thank you,” he said with a perfect smile, unconsciously making the woman in front of him flabbergasted with wide eyes. Impatient, Sean opened the box and saw that the diamond ring he had designed himself had taken shape. It was as elegant as he imagined it would be, even more perfect than the picture he had painted. His steps were so light as he walked into the meeting room, even though the smile didn't fade on Sean's face because of a ring in his trouser pocket.
