Two Lives in Exchange for True Love
After being reborn, I decide to stay far, far away from Jasper Swanson. I resign from his company. I sell our future wedding house. I go overseas to expand our family's business. In my previous life, I used a pregnancy to force him to marry me. But on our wedding day, his beloved first love jumped off a rooftop. Jasper acted like nothing had happened. He smiled and went through with the ceremony. On our wedding anniversary, he took me and our daughter to go bungee jumping. Then, he cut the cords himself, making us fall to our deaths. Afterward, he stood over my body and laughed manically. "If it weren't for you, Coco wouldn't have killed herself! Now, go to hell and atone for it!" When I open my eyes again, I'm back on the night I used the baby to force his hand.Chapter 1 Chapter 1
"My apologies, Ms. Jennings, but you're not allowed to enter without an invitation," the security guard said coldly as he blocked me at the entrance. This was the product launch that my parents had worked tirelessly to organize for Jasper Swanson. They poured a bunch of resources and funds into this, and yet, I wasn't invited. However, deep down, I felt a surge of joy. Because just a moment ago, I had been reborn, back to the day of the product launch. My family's status and wealth far exceeded that of the Swansons. Yet, I had always chased after Jasper, even though his heart only belonged to his first love, Coco Young. I never gave up, no matter how indifferent he was toward me. His mother, Valerie Morrison, was more than happy to approve of our relationship. As soon as Coco went abroad, they eagerly pushed for us to get engaged. However, Jasper never once looked at me with anything but disdain. Having witnessed me being snubbed countless times before, the security guard had no respect for me either. "Why are you putting yourself through this, Ms. Jennings?" he asked, his tone dripping with mockery. People with invitations, who were dressed to the nines, walked past me one after another. Some recognized me and whispered behind my back. In my previous life, I was also stopped from entering the launch. I was wearing a couture gown, and I shivered in the cold wind while enduring their scorn and ridicule. I fainted eventually and was taken to the hospital, only to find out I was pregnant. Jasper's expression stiffened right away, while Valerie was overjoyed and immediately announced that our wedding would take place in a month. Coco unexpectedly caused quite a commotion at our wedding. With tears in her eyes, she leapt off the rooftop. Jasper acted as if nothing had happened, and our wedding went on as planned. After our baby was born, we seemed like a happy family of three. I thought everything was behind us and we'd be the happiest family. However, on our wedding anniversary, he took me and the baby to go bungee jumping to celebrate. I didn't suspect a thing. I was thrilled. Then, the moment before we jumped, he cut the rope behind our backs. As I lay dying, I saw the hatred burning in his eyes. "If you hadn't trapped me with that baby, Coco wouldn't have died! Do you seriously think someone like you deserves to have my child? What a joke. "Just looking at you both for the past few years has disgusted me! Go to hell and apologize to Coco!" That was when I realized that everything he had said over the years had been a lie. All these years, he had blamed Coco's death on me and our child. Even after I died, he didn't spare my parents. After using them, he turned on them. He left them ruined and destitute. In this life, all I wanted was to stay far away from Jasper and protect myself and my family.
Chapter 2 Chapter 2
Hence, I turned around and walked away, leaving the security guard staring after me, stunned. Behind me, I heard him muttering to himself, "Did that pathetic simp just… leave?" I let out a bitter chuckle and slipped into my car. Everyone in Amveris' high society was well aware that I was hopelessly in love with Jasper. I helped him develop his products and even took care of hiring models for his campaigns. All he had to do was enjoy the end result. He used to tell me his family didn't have deep roots in Amveris and that he needed help. Hence, I gave him everything I had. I exhausted my family's resources for him. However, at the celebration party, when it came time to thank those who helped him, he didn't even mention my name. Instead, he tearfully thanked Coco, a nobody, an influencer who barely scraped the spotlight. It was not until then that I learned that his first love, Coco, had come back. Without any prior notice, he replaced all of his product spokespersons with her. When I asked him about it, he just smiled and said, "Coco is hardworking and ambitious. Why don't we give her a chance?" I thought it was ridiculous. Since when was success in this industry just about hard work and ambition? From then on, they spent more time together. When Coco was caught in a wave of online harassment, he didn't hesitate to use all of his company's resources to defend her. He slapped me across the face in front of everyone when I questioned him. "Coco is an employee of our company. What's it got to do with you? She's sweet and innocent; she doesn't even know what's going on! Am I supposed to just stand by and watch her get bullied?" But the truth was that Coco had secretly met with one of her livestream sponsors, and his wife found out. That was what sparked the backlash. I wasn't about to go through all those lies and pain again—not in this life. … I had just arrived at the hospital to schedule an abortion when I looked up and spotted Jasper carefully supporting Coco as they walked in. The way they smiled at each other made them look like the perfect couple. The moment our eyes met, a shiver shot through me, and I couldn't help but tremble all over. The pain from that fatal fall in my previous life crashed over me. The smile on his face disappeared right away, and his eyes turned cold when he saw me. Coco's voice was timid, but there was a sly look in her eyes. "Please don't get the wrong idea, Wynne. The stage suddenly collapsed during the event, and I fell. Mr. Swanson was just kind enough to bring me to the hospital…" There was a modest bruise on her ankle. Coco then tugged on Jasper's sleeve pitifully. "Please don't blame Wynne. I'm sure she didn't mean for this to happen." Of course, that was all it took. Jasper's eyes turned bloodshot with rage as he stormed over and grabbed me by the throat. "If it weren't for you, Coco wouldn't be hurt!" It was an event I wasn't even invited to—one I wasn't even present for—and yet it was my fault. As my face flushed crimson, Jasper caught a glimpse of the sign for the obstetrics and gynecology department and scoffed, "Wynne Jennings, don't tell me you're trying to trap me by pretending to be pregnant?" He abruptly let go of me, and I collapsed onto the cold tile floor. "If you're actually pregnant, get rid of it yourself. Don't make me do it. You're not even worthy of carrying my child!" he spat before walking away while holding Coco's hand. I felt a warm, sticky sensation spread between my legs. A passing nurse saw me and panicked, yelling, "Quick, come help her!"
Chapter 3 Chapter 3
When I came to, I saw my mother's anxious face hovering above me. My hand instinctively went to my lower abdomen. It was flat, as if that tiny life had never existed inside me. In my previous life, my daughter was born frail. She had spent weeks in an incubator. At one point, the doctors even issued a critical notice. I used every connection I had to bring in specialists from abroad, staying outside the hospital room without a wink of sleep. Jasper only showed up at the hospital once, frowning as he suggested, "Maybe you should just let her go. That way, neither you nor our daughter will have to suffer." The ridiculous thing was, I'd actually thought he cared back then. But now, I knew better. Since I wasn't loved, our child shouldn't be brought into the world to suffer. "Wynne, I… the doctor said…" My mother hesitated, worried she might upset me. "Mom, I'm fine now." I gently squeezed her hand. "Let's just forget about the engagement with the Swanson family." I stayed in the hospital for a few more days. Jasper never showed up, not even once. My mother saw everything for what it was. "How dare they treat you like this? It looks like the Swansons don't want to stay in Amveris anymore!" She pulled out her phone and made a call. "Re-tender all the projects we gave to the Swanson family!" … Jasper showed up at the hospital entrance on the day of my discharge. Leaning against his car, his handsome face was a storm cloud. "I have to say, you've got some nerve, Wynne! You messed up, yet you still had the audacity to put your family's projects back on the market. Do you really think I can't live without you and your family?" An elegantly made-up middle-aged woman stepped out of his car and swatted Jasper on the shoulder as soon as she saw me. "Don't listen to this troublemaker, Wynne. He's just sulking. I'm here to apologize on his behalf." Valerie walked up to me and warmly took my hand. "We're going to be family soon. Don't be so distant. In the future, whether it's the Jennings or the Swanson family, they both belong to you and Jasper!" My mother stood protectively in front of me. "I don't think that'll be necessary, Mrs. Swanson. My daughter isn't worthy of your son. The poor thing—""Mom, don't waste your breath on them!" I cut her off before she could mention my miscarriage. Jasper's expression darkened even further. Disregarding my mom's presence, he sneered, "Fine, Wynne. I gave you a chance, and you wasted it. Don't come crawling back to me later!" Valerie panicked, but Jasper dragged her back into the car without another word. My mother's chest heaved with anger, and I hurriedly calmed her down. Jasper had always believed he was too good for us. In his mind, we were so eager to give him projects because of his abilities. … When I arrived home and turned on the television, Jasper's face was on the screen. The cameras were flashing as a reporter asked, "Mr. Swanson, is Ms. Young your new spokesperson?" Ever since he stormed out of the hospital, he had been taking Coco to every high-profile event he could. He smiled at the camera and said, "Coco might be inexperienced, but I hope everyone can see how much effort she's putting in and her potential. She's worked her way up on her own, unlike someone who was born with a silver spoon." Then, a sarcastic gleam crossed his eyes. I knew exactly who he was talking about. Right after the television segment ended, Jasper's childhood friend posted on their social media. "Jasper and Coco look so good together! Looks like he finally got rid of that simp!" After we got engaged, my parents poured all of their resources into supporting Jasper. As the Swansons rose in status, his childhood friends sang his praises and boosted his ego sky-high.
Chapter 4 Chapter 4
All of a sudden, my phone rang. It was a property management staff. "Ms. Jennings, there's a social media influencer here saying she wants to use your place for a photoshoot…" My parents had bought a spacious apartment downtown as our wedding home, and I'd given Jasper a key card. "Kick her out." As soon as my words fell, I heard a shrill voice in the background. "This is my boyfriend's place! How dare you stop me from entering? Just you wait!" Not long after, Jasper called. He immediately confronted me. "Coco wants to shoot an ad at our place. Why the hell are you having the property management stop her? Tell them to back off before I lose my temper!""That's my place. What does it have to do with you? Get her out, or I'll call the cops!" I hung up on him before he could respond. … On the day I went to the office to finalize my resignation, Jasper stopped me in the break room. I'd secretly joined his company to be closer to him, starting from the bottom. He didn't go easy on me and gave me the toughest, dirtiest jobs. "I heard from HR that you're resigning?" I set down the files I was holding and responded coldly without looking up at him, "I want a change of environment." He'd never seen me like this before. A hint of anger crept into his tone. "When are you going to stop, Wynne? The other day, I went to our wedding home, and a stranger answered the door. Why did you sell it without telling me?" I looked up at him and responded apathetically, "Didn't you say you'd had enough of me? I'm just giving you what you wanted. I'm keeping my distance. Shouldn't you be thrilled?" He sneered, "I didn't even call you out when you took away all the projects before, but now you're quitting without telling me? Have you forgotten that you used to follow me around like a lost puppy? What are you playing at now? "I'm warning you, Wynne Jennings, your games won't work on me! Stop trying to hurt Coco, and I'll still marry you." I ignored him, gathered my belongings, and headed for the door. However, a single sheet of paper slipped out of the folder I was carrying. Jasper crouched down to pick it up. Then, with a shaky voice, he asked, "Wynne… are you… pregnant?"
