When her family discovers their unlikely encounter, Queenie is cast out, forcing her into an uneasy alliance with the enigmatic stranger who may not be as失忆 as he seems.Chapter 1 Chapter 1 The Mourning
The nation of Faeast was in mourning, lamenting the death of Lord Nox. Queenie Sanders sat on the beach of Riverton. She was in a bikini, revealing all her perfect curves, but her brows were furrowed as she stared at her phone. "Mourning? In the morning? And the whole Internet does it? Who's the deceased? Why's everyone going so far for him?" Queenie stared at the screen for five minutes before she clicked on the headlines. She was met with a big title in red, but all of them talked of the same thing across different news outlets. "Today, we mourn the death of a god of war. The day before, our Lord fell into the ambush of ten nations' warriors, and he was felled in the Ocean of Death. "So great was the battle it drenched the ocean crimson. So terrible was the battle that corpses decorated the ocean's surface. "Even though Lord Nox has fallen, he took down a million soldiers from the enemies' nations all by himself." Queenie's jaw dropped, her eyes still glued to the headlines. She thought, 'Lord Nox? That's a living legend. Grandpa always told me he was invincible. How did he die?' A moment later, she added, "That explains the Internet's mourning in silence. The god of war is dead." She skimmed through the biggest news of the day before putting her phone down. Lord Nox was incredible, yes. He was the hero of Faeast, but he was not someone close to Queenie's life. He was out of her reach, not to mention she had her own troubles to tend to. She lay on the chair, musing over her family's matter, and sadness flickered on her face. Queenie's phone rang. It was from Lara Durant, her best friend, so she took the call. "Yes?" A hurried voice asked, "Where have you been, Queenie? Why couldn't I get through to you?""What's wrong, Lara? I'm on vacation at the old home," said Queenie nonchalantly, sipping on her drink. "You're getting married in two days, girl. How can you even have time for vacation?" Queenie smirked. "Just because I'm getting married doesn't mean I can't go on a vacation. Besides, they're using me as a chip for a marriage of convenience. Why can't I at least have a chance to go around to vent my frustration?" Lara paused for a moment. "You don't want to marry Centersea's heir, do you?""He's an infamous playboy who gets accused of sexual assault every year for three years running. You think I'd marry that scum?" Lara was silent, but then she asked, "If you didn't want to marry him, why didn't you tell your grandpa? You know he dotes on you.""He's been in a coma for more than a year. My uncle, curse his soul, is now in charge of the family. I can't do anything about this." Lara heaved a long sigh. "I'm sorry, Queenie. I never knew things were this complicated with your family.""It's nothing. I've always been a chip for bargains anyway. I'm used to it." Resignation welled up in Queenie's eyes. "So, when are you coming back?" Lara asked. "After tomorrow.""Tell me when you get back. Bye." Queenie hung up and got up from the recliner. Sunlight shone on her glimmering skin, draping a sheen of gold over her perfect body, but she cared not for its glory. She raised her head, staring at the endless sea ahead of her. "I'd rather be a fish. At least I would have freedom." She sighed again and tossed her towel away. Then, she leaped into the sea. The waves crashed on her, and Queenie swam into the deep end. While Queenie was aimlessly swimming in the sea, she saw a silhouette floating in the distance. "What's that?" Queenie took a closer look, her eyes wide. "Wait, that's a human. What's he doing in the deep sea?" Without thinking, Queenie swam toward the silhouette, and it didn't take her long before she reached it. It was a man dressed in all black.
Chapter 2 Chapter 2 The Traitor
The man was unconscious, buffeted by the waves. The kind Queenie went straight to saving the stranger. Fortunately, she was a decent swimmer. With one hand, she dragged the man, and with the other, she swam toward the shore. Her strength was all but expended, but Queenie finally got the man to the shore. A long sigh escaped her lips, and Queenie checked for breathing. He was breathing, but barely. He's alive? Queenie looked at the stranger once more. He was lying on his belly, his clothes drenched and soggy. Queenie flipped the man over, and she was stunned by his looks. The man's face was the color of clouds, possibly because of his soaking in the sea for a long time. His lines were sharp, his features handsome. "He's hot." Queenie felt her heart race, but she wasn't one to fawn over every handsome man she came across. She took a deep breath and quickly did CPR for the man. A few dozen repetitions later, the man's breathing felt stronger. Queenie had saved him. "Finally." She heaved a long sigh. "But who is this guy, and why was he in the sea? And what should I do with him? This is a remote place. Barely anyone's around. If I leave him behind, he's going to die when the tides come in at night." In the end, Queenie decided to take the man to the old home. Once there, she placed the stranger on her bed. She took a look at him and went for a shower. She was covered in sand all over. After that, she would take him to the city's hospital. At the same time, a trio of Benz zipped through the meandering mountain path. "I can't believe this. It's almost her wedding, and she came to the old home for a vacation herself. If her friend hadn't told me about it, we would never have found her." The man who spoke was dressed in an expensive suit and had the face of a cunning fox. He was in the backseat of his car, smoking a cigar. And he was Queenie's uncle, Hogs Sanders. "Calm down, Hogs. Queenie only went out to have some fun. She wouldn't do anything stupid," a gentlemanly guy quickly said. "Honestly, George, you should keep an eye on your daughter. If this marriage with Centersea's heir falls apart, our family will be done for.""Yes, of course." George Sanders, Queenie's father, had to bow down despite getting lectured. "Listen up. After we take her back, she's going nowhere until she marries Centersea's heir. Without my permission, no one's letting her out of the house," said Hogs sternly. The trio of cars quickly made their way to the old home. Back in the old home, Queenie came out of the bathroom, wearing nothing but a piece of towel. She walked around barefoot and was drying her hair. Glancing at the man, she muttered, "You're lucky you ran into me. You owe me one for taking you to the hospital." Queenie dried her hair and got ready to pack up and return to the city. She glanced at the stranger and thought she had to change him out of his wet, soggy clothes. However, when she took off the man's clothes, she froze. "Who on earth is this person?" The man was covered in scars too hideous to put into words. They were almost like an emblem. It was as if someone had carved a painting haphazardly onto his skin, but more importantly, the man had a tattoo of a dragon's head on his back. The dragon's head was majestic, proud, and imperious. Just then, someone smashed the door open. "Queenie, you're coming home with… me…" The people who came in were none other than George, Hogs, and the Sanders family's bodyguards. When they saw Queenie wearing nothing but a piece of towel, sitting with a naked man on the bed, they froze up.
Chapter 3 Chapter 3 George's Fury
"Dad? Uncle George? Why are you here?" Queenie was stumped. She couldn't believe it was her dad and uncle here. "What are you doing, Queenie? And who is this man?" George roared. He almost had a stroke seeing his daughter together with a naked man in bed. Queenie finally realized why her father was reacting hugely. She quickly stood up and said, "Don't take this the wrong way, Dad. I don't know this man.""What? You don't know this man? And you slept with him? Are you mad?" George roared. "Listen to me, Dad. I don't know him. He's—" Queenie was about to explain herself, but Hogs sneered. "Well, well, well, George. Your daughter slept with a total stranger, and on the cusp of her wedding with Centersea's heir. Now tell me, how should we deal with her?" George was shivering in rage, his eyes crimson. "What did I do to deserve this? You insolent child. What have you done? How dare you?" George raised his hand against his child, but just before the slap could land, someone grabbed George's arm and stood before Queenie, defending her. Queenie was stunned once more. When she raised her head, she saw a towering figure standing before her, as well as the dragon's head that was tattooed on his back. He's awake. The stranger's grip was strong enough to break George's arm. George shouted, "W-What do you want?" The stranger stood in silence, but the look in his eyes was cold and majestic. It was as if he was a king looking at his subject. "Let me go this instant!" George roared. Yet, the stranger's grip was firm, and he refused to let go. Furious, George bellowed, "Take him down, guards!" He couldn't believe his daughter just slept with a total stranger, and that same stranger was attacking him. The Sanders family's bodyguards were professionals. Moments after their employer was caught, they charged at the captor, but all of them were sent flying back before they could see the man move. They fell with a sickening thud, moaning in pain. 'Dear God. What happened?' Queenie thought. She couldn't believe her eyes. The stranger she saved had just sent her family's bodyguards flying without so much as breaking a sweat. George and Hogs were dumbfounded by the scene, and the stranger was still gripping George's arm. At this rate, George's arm would get broken. In the end, Queenie said, "Let my dad go." The man finally let go of George. Queenie quickly went to her father's side, trying to calm him down. "Are you alright, Dad?" However, she was pushed away forcefully by George. He barked, "Don't touch me, girl. I raised you, and this is the thanks I get? You and your lover beating me up? Fine. From now on, you're exiled from the family!" George left. Queenie cried, shouting, "Dad!" George gave her no chance to explain. Queenie plopped onto the ground, tears still streaming down her cheeks. She never would have thought her father would misunderstand the situation so seriously. All she did was save a dying man. She cried for a while, and then she wiped her tears dry and turned around, glaring at the stranger furiously. "This is all your fault. My dad wouldn't have taken this the wrong way otherwise. And I didn't say you could attack him!" Queenie kept yelling at the stranger. The stranger stood in silence for moments, and then he fell to the ground, unconscious once more, much to Queenie's shock. She quickly checked the stranger's breathing. 'He's fine. Thank God,' she thought. The stranger was just knocked out again. Queenie had no idea what to do now. The misunderstanding was running too deep to be cleared up now, but what should she do about the stranger? She couldn't just leave him behind, could she? Queenie stared at the stranger, hesitating. "You were only doing it to help me out. Fine, I'll finish what I started." Queenie decided to stay behind and tend to the stranger. She dragged him across the room, and then she heard a clang. A black token fell from the stranger's clothes. "Huh? What's this?" Queenie picked the token up curiously. It was heavy, but she couldn't tell what the thing was made out of. Still, she felt a bloodcurdling chill radiating from the token when she held it in her hand. Something was carved on its surface. It read, 'Nox.' She frowned and said, "What in the world is this?" She observed it for a while before tossing it aside. The stranger was still out cold, but Queenie wasn't worried. She did manage to save him from the brink of death, after all. He was still alive.
Chapter 4 Chapter 4 Nox Greenshade
Queenie got changed and kept watch over the unconscious stranger. He was handsome if anything, and he had the air of a king. If he wasn't out cold, he would be the man of every woman's dream. "Who is he, and why was he in the ocean? And how did he send my family's bodyguards flying that easily?" Those questions and more were racing in Queenie's mind. Driven by curiosity and something else, Queenie wanted to know more about the man before her, but eventually, Queenie rested her head on the edge of the bed and fell asleep. She heard something rustle, and groggily, Queenie opened her eyes. What she saw made her shout. The man had awoken and was standing right in front of her. Scared, Queenie quickly scuttled backward and asked with caution, "W-What do you want?" The stranger had a dazed look in his eyes. He scanned his surroundings before turning his attention to Queenie. "Who are you? What is this place?" He had a deep, husky voice, but there was confusion in his tone. "Queenie Sanders," Queenie quickly answered. "I saved you from the sea.""The sea?" The stranger wondered what she was talking about. "Yeah. You were floating in the sea. Don't you remember?" Queenie said, trying to jog his memory. The mention of the sea made the stranger freeze. All of a sudden, screams and shouts exploded in his mind. He saw corpses floating lifelessly in the waters, smoke, and battleships disappearing in an ocean of flames. So many people died in the fire. In the end, he saw an army of powerful warriors closing in on him on all sides, and they pounced on him. In the end, he heard something. The people were shouting out to him. "Lord Nox!" He tried to remember, but then pain burst in his head. It was like his brain was being pierced by knives. The pain was so intense that it almost knocked him out. He held his head, convulsing in agony. Queenie quickly asked, "What's wrong?" The stranger took a while to calm down. He rubbed his head, which felt like exploding. "My head hurts.""You have a headache? Maybe you have a concussion," Queenie said. "I don't know," answered the stranger, still dazed. "Why were you in the sea, then? Did you fall into it or…" Queenie continued. The stranger shook his head. He did not know. There were many things the stranger couldn't remember. Queenie asked, "What's your name? You know that much, don't you?" The stranger fell into a stupor for a few moments, and he shook his head again. Queenie thought, 'Oh no. He's amnesiac. He can't even remember his name.' Suddenly, Queenie was reminded of something. She quickly went to the side and retrieved the stranger's token for him. "Here. This fell out of you. Do you remember it?" The stranger paused for a moment, but he took the token in the end. When he saw the words engraved on it, something exploded in his mind, and he remembered a certain memory. "Nox… Nox… Nox Greenshade.""Nox Greenshade? Is that your name?" Queenie asked when she heard the stranger utter a strange name. The stranger had no idea if that was his name, but he kept muttering it under his breath. "I guess you really did lose your memory." The stranger remained silent. He stood there in a daze, rubbing his throbbing head. Queenie had a headache, too. She saved a dying man from the sea, but he lost his memory, and her family thought she had a sordid affair with him.
Chapter 5 Chapter 5 How It Came to Be
Queenie sighed again and looked at Nox. "Fine. You're hot, so I'll finish what I started. No matter what happens, I'm taking you back to town, and then it's straight to the hospital. "See if we can get your memory back. And please explain everything to my family if you do," Queenie said. "I'm going to pack my stuff and make preparations to return to the city. You watch some TV or whatever. Don't run around, and don't touch my stuff." Queenie turned on the TV for Nox. Nox nodded dumbly and turned to the TV. It was airing the Battle of the Ten Nations, specifically the part where the Ocean of Death was concerned. Black smoke billowed from the fleet of battleships, and countless aircraft were swirling around overhead. Amidst the smoke and screams of war, the warriors of Faeast were fending off the invaders from the ten nations. The moment Nox saw that, his mind went blank, and then pain shot up once more, only to be followed by a stream of memories. 'Lord Nox. That's me, Nox Greenshade. I'm Faeast's god of war. The ten nations started a war because I became the unparalleled Legend, and I'm not even thirty years old. 'I'm the bane of their existence. I'm the ten nations' nightmare. To kill me, they sent a million powerful warriors and thirteen of their best guardians—top Legends." Nox continued to recall, 'I fought their whole army alone and took down seven Gods in battle, but I was defeated. All because of Aphrodite Mousse, the woman I loved the most.' 'No one expected her to poison me on the night before the end of the war, and she went all out. She used the Kirin Firepoison, the strongest poison in the world. 'The firepoison attacked my heart, and the ten nations' warriors attacked me. It was on the Ocean of Death I was defeated, and I was thrown into the waters. It was from that moment on, Faeast’s god of war fell.' The memories finally stopped coming, but hatred and rage filled Nox up. He was like a volcano, almost erupting into disaster. Nox finally knew who he was. 'Why did you betray me, Aphrodite? Why did you poison me?' The memory of Aphrodite tore Nox's heart asunder, the flames of fury almost engulfing him like a beast. Still, his sanity took hold in the end. The Mousse family was the biggest family in Faeast, and they were the top of Faeast's Ancient Four. They had enough wealth to run a country, but more than that, their family had an army of powerful warriors. Just then, another surge of pain washed over Nox. This time, it came from his heart, and the pain felt searing, like flames licking his insides. "Shit. The Kirin Firepoison." Feeling the poison erupting in his body, Nox quickly circulated his inner energy across his entire body to keep the poison down. About a minute later, he finally suppressed it, though only barely. "It seems that the poison is not going away anytime soon. I'll have to lay low for now. Before I'm cured from the poison, I cannot expose myself." Suddenly, Nox remembered the lady who saved him from the ocean. "Amnesiac, huh? It's a decent plan. Since she thinks I've lost my memories, I'll tag along for now. Besides, her family thinks she slept with a total stranger because of me." Nox made up his mind. Faeast's god of war would be an amnesiac from this moment on.
Chapter 6 Chapter 6 Broken Car
A few minutes later, Queenie was done packing. She came out of the room while Nox was still standing in the living room, acting like he was an amnesiac. "Let's go, amnesiac." Queenie picked up her suitcase and left the house without looking at Nox. She muttered, "This is all your fault. My family wouldn't have thought I was a… Now, how should I explain myself?" Queenie sighed. She came to a white Mini parked outside the house and placed her suitcase in the trunk. "Get in," she said. Nox grunted and got into the car. It was pink inside and smelled nice. Queenie got in a moment later. "It's your lucky day. You're the first man to grace my car." Nox secretly chuckled, but he said nothing. "We should get back to the city now." Queenie revved up the car and drove away. On the way back, she listened to the radio while Nox closed his eyes and ran his inner energy around his body to heal himself up. Queenie would sometimes steal a glance at Nox. He had a handsome face, twinkling eyes, and an aquiline nose. "He'd be the perfect prince if not for his amnesia. It'd be alright if he could be my boyfriend." The thought of having a relationship filled Queenie with sadness. She thought, 'A boyfriend? Me? I'm just a tool my family is using to marry me to Centersea's heir. I have no right to choose who to marry.' Queenie smiled bitterly and shook the depressing thoughts away. She kept her eyes on the road. It would take at least five hours to reach Riverton from where they were. Right before they got onto the highway, a bang echoed in the air. The car's engine was rattling, and then black smoke billowed from the hood. "What's going on?" Shocked, Queenie stopped the car at the shoulder of the road and got out to check the car. She pushed up the hood, and black smoke gushed out like a geyser. Queenie choked on the smoke and coughed, making her scramble backward. "Oh no. My car's busted." She stared at the engine. It was still making a weird nose, and smoke was still going up. Queenie was at a loss. They were in the middle of nowhere, and there was no mechanic nearby. She had no idea how to repair a car either. 'What now?' she thought. "Just my luck. It just has to break down now." In her fury, Queenie kicked her car. Nox got out of the car. "What's wrong?" Still in a bad mood, Queenie didn't look at Nox. "Can you stop talking?" He stood still and said nothing, making her realize that she might've been a bit harsh. He wasn't the one to fault for her car's breakdown. Eventually, Queenie said, "My car's busted. I'm not in a good mood, so don't take it to heart." Nox grunted and approached the busted car. Queenie didn't mind much. She took her phone out and was going to call the dealership. She wanted to ask if they could get a tow truck. Meanwhile, Nox came up to the Mini and checked the engine closely.
Chapter 7 Chapter 7 Zone: Draco
When Nox saw the smoke and noticed the scent of something charred coming from the circuit board, he knew what was going on. Being the one and only Lord Nox, a broken-down car was nothing to him. He quickly went to the trunk and whipped out a wrench. Nox then quickly turned the screws on the engine, trying to open the lid. Queenie was still making a call when she saw Nox fiddling with her car. A momentary pause later, she trotted up to Nox. "What are you doing?" Queenie watched Nox in surprise as he took off the engine's lid. Nox said nothing. He was going unscrewing the screws and checking the circuit. "Wait. Are you trying to repair my car?" Queenie asked curiously. Nox said nothing and kept going on with the repairs. About two minutes later, Nox finally connected the broken wire. "Done." Queenie was flabbergasted. She stared at Nox in disbelief. "You're done? That was fast. You sure that's right?" Nox grunted. Queenie had more questions, one of them being why an amnesiac knew how to do car repairs. Doubtful, Queenie quickly went back into her car and revved it up. The engine hummed, and the weird noise was no longer there. Even the smoke was gone. Queenie was delighted to see her car back in working condition. "I can't believe you repaired my car. Maybe you were a mechanic before all this amnesia stuff." Nox was flummoxed. "Not bad. I'm sure you used to be a mechanic. Or a repair guy, at least." Queenie thought she knew who Nox used to be. Nox, however, was speechless. Just like that, the car was fixed. Queenie happily drove the car and Nox back to the city. She wouldn't stop praising Nox on their way back, though most of the praises were along the lines of how handy he was and how great at repairing he was. Nox smiled dryly. Never in his life did he expect someone to see him as a repairman. He was a god of war. The car finally got onto the highway, and Queenie sped up. Just then, a motorcade of military vehicles came roaring from behind like a dragon. Dozens of tanks followed them. All the cars on the road made way for this motorcade. They knew who this motorcade belonged to. They came from Zone: Draco, an army base near the south of Riverton. Through the windows, they saw armed militia inside. Zone: Draco was one of Faeast's Ten Military Zones. The person in charge was a man called Draco Fort. Draco was a legend among the military, but more than that, he was one of the four most famous generals under Nox. The military cars went ahead, roaring through the road, eventually passing Queenie and Nox. Queenie watched the motorcade in excitement. "That's one of the Ten Military Zones. Look at that. It's so grand." Nox was watching the motorcade pass by as well. "Wonder if Draco's going to cry when he finds out I'm dead." Nox fell into reminiscence, thinking about his old friend.
Chapter 8 Chapter 8 Silas Joshton
While Nox was watching the motorcade in reminiscence, Queenie watched him. "Hey, what are you looking at?" Nox quickly turned around. "Nothing.""You were enthralled, though. Why?" Queenie asked. A smile played on Nox's lips. "Maybe because they feel familiar.""They feel familiar? You're an amnesiac. There's nothing to feel familiar with, especially not with cars from Draco. Wait. Were you a soldier?" asked Queenie. Nox was speechless again. He thought, 'A soldier? I was more than that.' Since Nox was quiet, Queenie smiled. "Don't worry about it. I bet you were a mechanic. When we get back to town, I'll take you to a big hospital. They'll help you get your memories back. I'll be cashing in on that favor when my car breaks down." Hearing that, Nox smiled dryly. Three hours later, Queenie and Nox finally came back to Riverton, a city filled with skyscrapers. Nox looked around, but he kept his silence. After she came back to the city, Queenie got a call from Lara. "Where are you, Queenie?" Lara wasted no time asking Queenie. Thinking about how fake Lara was, Queenie's face fell. "I'm back in Riverton. How did my family know I was at the old home? How did my father know? Did you tell them?" Queenie was no fool. Less than two hours after she talked to her friend, her father led a team of bodyguards straight to the old home to look for her. This was no coincidence. Lara quickly explained, "I'm sorry, Queenie. Your father forced me to. I had to tell him. You're not mad at me, are you?" She acted like she was the victim. Queenie was still mad a moment ago, but once Lara made a 'sincere' apology, she took a deep breath. "Forget it. It's water under the bridge now. I'm not mad at you.""Thank you, Queenie. I was just worried about you. So where are you? I want to welcome you back myself," Lara said. Queenie, oblivious to her friend's betrayal, said, "I'm going to reach my place soon.""I see. Oh, right. Your father called me. He told me you're with a stranger, and you've slept with him. Is that true?" asked Lara. Queenie sighed. "It's a misunderstanding. I'll tell you everything when we meet.""Sure. Wait for me at home. I'll see you in a moment." Lara hung up. Lara was in a resplendent, decadent room. Her hair was permed and curly, and she was in a leopard print miniskirt. She put her phone down and smiled seductively at the man in the room. "I got the information, Mr. Joshton. Your fiancee will be back soon. She seems to be on a vacation with a stranger." The man was none other than the heir to Centersea Corporation—Silas Joshton. Silas was a man with a face that had a perpetual scowl. He said nothing and whipped out a wad of cash from his bag before tossing it at Lara. Lara didn't look at the cash. "You insult me, Silas. I didn't ask her so many questions just for money." A sneer curled Silas' lips, and he stared at Lara. "Then, what are you after?" She sashayed over to Silas and touched his lower body. "You, of course." Just when Lara was about to go further, he flung her away. "Sorry, but my family has standards. We don't take in harlots." Lara looked insulted. "Just because I've slept with you a few times doesn't mean I've taken a liking to you, Lara. Harlots are just that, harlots. Don't push your luck." Lara smiled bitterly, but that smile disappeared soon after. She said, "I might be a harlot, but I take it on the chin. Unlike your fiancee, who goes on a beach vacation with a stranger when your wedding is right around the corner. "A man and a woman spending nearly three days on vacation at a beach. Why, you might've been cucked, Silas." Silas clenched Lara by the throat. "Another word out of your filthy mouth, and I'll snap your neck, you harlot." Lara was unafraid, even though someone was threatening her with her life. "Do it. I dare you. But don't forget, I'm not the one who cucked you." A hint of violence and cruelty flared in Silas' eyes. He glared at Lara, as if trying to bore a hole through her, but he let her go in the end. Then, he stormed off without giving Lara another look. A row of bodyguards was standing before a motorcade of luxury cars outside. When Silas came out, they greeted him immediately. "Hello, Mr. Joshton." Silas had a dark look on his face. He couldn't stop thinking about how Queenie was having the time of her life with a stranger, and he clenched his fists. "How dare you cuck me, you wench? Just you wait," he hissed, and Silas got into his car. "To Queenie's place, and call my father. Tell him to stop all business deals with the Sanderses."
Chapter 9 Chapter 9 The Mastiff
After the call with her friend, Queenie took Nox back to Pearl Residence. She rented this place. Ever since Queenie was a child, her family had always ostracized her. She had moved out of her family's place and got a home of her own when she was rather young. "Finally home." Queenie parked her car in front of a mansion after entering the neighborhood and got out. Nox followed her. He looked at the mansion and thought it wasn't half-bad. "Listen up, amnesiac. I've never let a man into my house so far, so don't run around, you hear?" Nox nodded with a smile. Queenie picked up her luggage and took Nox back into the mansion. The moment the electronic door swung open, a great big silhouette lunged at Queenie. Alarmed, Nox was going to attack, but Queenie hugged the silhouette. Happily, she said, "Blackshark, I'm back!" The thing Queenie was holding was a black dog—a large one at that, and with sharp teeth manning its maw. No, it was no mere dog. It was a black mastiff. The mastiff rubbed its head against Queenie and barked. Obviously, it was fond of Queenie. "It's been two days, Blackshark. Miss me?" Queenie patted the mastiff's head. Mastiffs were known to be fiercer than any lone wolves, yet one was lying in Queenie's arms, as docile as a doll. However, when Blackshark saw the stranger standing behind its master, a switch was flipped. It growled and glared at Nox viciously. Queenie quickly pulled it back. "No, Blackshark. He's my friend, you hear me?" The mastiff was smart. Once its master gave her command, the creature glared at Nox once more, but it hung its head low, growling quietly. Queenie played with it for a while before patting its head. "Alright, run along now." The mastiff left, but before it did, it bared its teeth at Nox, threatening him. "Don't be scared, amnesiac. Blackshark might look fierce, but it's friendly. Unless you make it mad, of course. And don't make me mad either." Queenie smiled at Nox. Nox watched the leaving mastiff. "Why do you keep a mastiff anyway?" Curious, Queenie said, "Oh, you know it's a mastiff? Pretty impressive for an amnesiac." Nox was speechless. He thought, 'I lost my memories, not my common sense.' "It's lonely in this place, and I got scared living alone, so I asked my friend to get me Blackshark. With it around, I never get spooked sleeping at night," said Queenie. Nox thought, 'Oh, so that's why she keeps the mastiff. She's scared of living alone.' Queenie's family ostracized her and forced her to marry someone she didn't like. Nox felt some sympathy for her. "Find someplace to sit. I'll need to freshen up. Remember not to run around, or Blackshark will bite you. It can kill a wolf if it wants to." Queenie went away to wash herself up after giving Nox a warning. Nox chuckled. A mastiff could never be a threat to him. When he was still the god of war, Draco, one of his Four Generals, had a white tiger. That beast could tear apart steel and metal. It could fight a Grandmaster by itself, but it bowed to Nox nonetheless. These memories made Nox smile again, and he went to the mastiff. The mastiff had a room of its own. When Nox came in, he smelled blood in the air. He looked around and saw the mastiff in a huge cage made of black metal. The beast was munching on raw, bloody meat. When it sensed Nox's presence, the mastiff growled and curled its front paws. It bared its teeth at Nox, blood dripping from its incisors.
Chapter 10 Chapter 10 A Docile Mastiff
Nox stood at the doorway, smiling at the mastiff. The world claimed it was the strongest dog in the world when it came to aggression. The mastiff growled, glaring at Nox darkly. It would pounce on him at any moment, but Nox was unfazed. He narrowed his eyes, and an invisible aura burst forth from his body. This caused the room to shake, and then the big dog started shivering. It slowly backed off as if it was terrified. "Don't be scared, little guy. I won't hurt you." Nox approached the terrified mastiff with a smile. The mastiff quickly went down on all fours, shivering. It couldn't even hold its head up. Nox patted its head. "Let's go for a stroll." Just like that, a man and his dog walked out of the room. … Queenie came out of her shower wearing a pink tracksuit. She thought Nox would still be around, but he was nowhere to be found. "Where did he go? Oh God, don't tell me he's run off." Nox lost his memories, and he had just come to this place. Queenie darted out of the house to look for him, but then she saw something that made her speechless. Her mastiff was lying under Nox's feet like a little lamb, and to think she took more than six months to tame it. Nox was inside the public pavilion, basking in the sun. Queenie cursed in her mind. She couldn't believe her eyes. Her fierce beast was lying by Nox like a lamb. 'What is going on?' Queenie thought. She rushed over to the pavilion and roared, "Nox Greenshade!" Nox turned around and smiled at Queenie. "I told you not to run around, you amnesiac. What if you went missing?" Queenie lectured. Nox felt warm inside, knowing Queenie cared about him. "And why did you bring Blackshark around? He's a mastiff. He's very aggressive. What if he bites you?" Queenie continued shouting. He rubbed his nose. "Don't worry. He won't bite me. He doesn't have the guts." Queenie was speechless. "What? Blackshark doesn't have the guts to… Are you mad? He's a purebred mastiff. He can even fight a lion, and you claim he's scared of you?" She pouted. Nox smiled dryly. "Yes, he is. Watch." Nox smacked Blackshark's head. Blackshark remained on the ground, shivering. He wouldn't even move or make a sound. Queenie thought she was hallucinating when she saw this. "Blackshark? Blackshark?" she called out to her dog. The poor mastiff raised his head to stare at his master, but he had no courage to approach her. Queenie was speechless. "What did you do to Blackshark, you bastard? What happened to him?" Queenie screamed. Nox felt a little aggrieved. "I didn't do anything to him. I just brought him out for some sunbathing.""No way. Blackshark is fiercer than a lion but look at him now. Even a lamb's braver than him." Nox chuckled in his mind. 'I did nothing to him,' he thought. Queenie quickly dragged Blackshark back to her place. She kept an eye on it once she was back, while Nox stayed around, bored. Just then, a motorcade of luxury cars stopped in front of Queenie's mansion. Nox looked through the window. When he saw who was inside the car, his brows furrowed.
