Chapter 1 Chapter 1

My Alpha mate, Sebastian Cole's stepsister, murdered my mother in cold blood, but he still chose to protect her. The day I caught the two of them in bed together, all illusions I'd ever had were shattered completely. From that moment on, I swore they would both pay for what they'd done. A few days later, Sebastian finally let me out of the basement. "Vivian, have you made up your mind about dropping the charges?" he asked. That was the first thing out of his mouth, as if the agony I'd suffered underground didn't matter at all. All he cared about was pleading for his precious stepsister. A sharp, familiar ache pierced my chest, but I forced myself to stand tall. "I will never drop the case. Cassandra has to face the consequences for what she did," I said with a sneer. His gaze turned cold. "You know it was an accident. That day was her mother's death anniversary. She was already devastated, and then those Rogues attacked her. She tried to save your mother, Vivian. But the Rogues never gave her a chance." He reached into his pocket and pulled out a sapphire necklace. "This was crafted with the purest primal energy. The entire mine only produced this one piece. You could..." I stared at him in disbelief, feeling my anger boil over. I slapped the necklace out of his hand, sending it clattering across the stone floor. "Are you trying to buy me off, Sebastian? Do you really think a gemstone can make up for my mother's life?" I demanded, my voice rising with grief and fury. "If you'd bother to investigate, you'd see she had every chance to get help or run anywhere else! But she chose my mother's house! That wasn't an accident! It was intentional!" Sebastian's patience snapped. He tossed a folder at my feet. "Fine. If you won't cooperate, then the Golden Wheatfield project goes to someone else." My hands shook as I picked up the file and feel my blood run cold. The Golden Wheatfield was my father's life's work before he fell into a coma. During a brutal battle years ago, while everyone else fled, my father—an Omega—took the fatal blow to save Sebastian. Sebastian once swore to take care of me and always put me first. He kept that promise for five years—until Cassandra came back, and everything changed. "How... How could you?" My tears finally spilled over as my voice trembled. My chest tightened, and it was hard to breathe. "Did you forget? This was my father's dream! You wouldn't even be standing here if he hadn't protected you!" For just a second, Sebastian froze. I saw something flicker in his eyes. Was it guilt, or perhaps hesitation? But it vanished instantly, replaced by a hardened look. "That's exactly why you need to listen to me, Vivian. Cassandra's already been punished. She knows she was wrong." I knew all too well what he meant by "punishment". At worst, he'd ground her or freeze her credit cards for a few days. Ever since Cassandra returned, she couldn't stand seeing Sebastian with me for even a minute. She'd throw fits, cause accidents, humiliate me—anything to drive a wedge between us. Sebastian would scold her, but he never actually punished her. Anyone else in the pack would have been exiled or even faced something worse for doing the same. His excuse was always the same. "Vivian, just forgive Cassandra. She grew up wandering with her mother. She has deep trust issues. I promised her mother I'd always take care of her." I used to tell myself they were nothing more than siblings. But now, I wasn't so sure. I closed my eyes and finally gave in. "Fine, Sebastian. I agree. I'll drop the case." As I signed the papers, all the tears I'd been holding back for days finally spilled over. I'd always thought of myself as strong and never let him see me cry before. Sebastian seemed almost flustered. "I knew you'd make the right choice, Vivian," he murmured, a look of relief flickering over his face. "Don't worry. In seven days, we'll have an even grander marking ceremony than before." He pulled me into a tight hug, but before I could even feel the warmth of his embrace, he had already turned and walked away without looking back. Not long after, I saw Cassandra's latest post on social media. She was holding Sebastian's hand, showing off that sapphire necklace. The caption read, "My brother has always been my rock." In the photo, Sebastian looked at her with a softness I'd never seen before. It cut deeper than any wound. My mother had just died because of Cassandra, yet he was celebrating with her just because I dropped the charges. A grander marking ceremony? I almost laughed. I pulled out my phone and called the clinic. "Hi, I'd like to schedule an abortion." My hand rested on my stomach, feeling the little life growing inside me. I had once planned to surprise Sebastian with the news on our marking ceremony. But now, there was no need for such pointless hopes. That marking ceremony was never going to happen.

Chapter 2 Chapter 2

It was raining softly on the day I buried my mother. However, the last person I wanted to see showed up. Just as the crane was slowly lowering my mother's coffin into the grave, Cassandra arrived, carrying a bouquet of lilies. Without a word, she placed the flowers in front of the tombstone. I could barely contain my disgust at her hypocrisy. I was sure my mother would have felt the same. Without hesitation, I strode over and kicked her flowers away. "Get out! You're not welcome here!" She let out a dramatic scream and stumbled back into Sebastian's arms, even though I hadn't laid a finger on her. "Sebastian!" she whimpered, clutching her "injured" knee and curling into his chest like a frightened little rabbit. Sebastian wrapped his arms around her, glaring at me. "Vivian! She's just here to pay her respects!" Cassandra's eyes welled with tears as she put on her most pitiful look. "Vivian, I know you hate me. I never wanted this to happen. I'm so sorry… If only I had died instead, maybe then you wouldn't be in so much pain. "Sebastian already punished me. If you're still angry, just hit me. Do whatever you want, Vivian…" Cassandra always wore a mask. She had one face for Sebastian and a completely different one for me. She loved playing the victim, and Sebastian always believed her. In the past, I put up with it for Sebastian's sake, swallowing my anger time and again. But now, I'd had enough. I glared coldly at Sebastian. "Get this murderer out of here! I won't repeat it!" Murmurs from the crowd made Cassandra's expression falter. She clenched her fists, eyes flickering with calculation, then gave a slight nod. "You're right, I'm making things worse. I'm sorry. I'll leave now…" She backed away, but she "accidentally" tripped over something, pitching to the side. "May you find eternal peace in the arms of angels…" the pastor said solemnly as the coffin was lowered. But at that moment, Cassandra suddenly toppled to the side, crashing hard into my mother's coffin. She was really strong. There was a loud bang. The heavy casket slammed onto the ground, one corner smashing against the stone with a terrible crack. The lid flew open, exposing my mother's pale face to the crowd. "No!" I screamed, unable to believe what I was seeing. "Look at what you've done!" I rushed over, frantically yet carefully repositioning my mother inside the coffin. Grief nearly suffocated me. My mother was gone. Why couldn't Cassandra even let her have peace in the end? My hands shook as I brushed the dirt from my mother's face. Then, I turned on Cassandra, striding toward her as my anger boiled over. Cassandra burst into tears, trembling. "I'm sorry! I didn't mean it! I just slipped…" "Vixen! I should rip your face off!" I raised my hand to slap her, but Sebastian grabbed my wrist before I could. "Vivian, stop! Calm down! It was just an accident!" he shouted. "I'm sorry your mother's rest was disturbed. I'll make sure she gets a better burial plot..." He was still trying to protect Cassandra. "Save it," I said coldly, pulling my hand free. I was completely drained. I didn't want to argue with them anymore. I just wanted my mother to finally rest in peace. After turning away, I didn't give Sebastian another glance. He watched my retreating back, his hand still frozen in the air as his brows furrowed in frustration. After the funeral, I left the cemetery exhausted, rain soaking through my clothes. However, my nightmare wasn't over yet. As soon as I stepped outside the cemetery gates, my phone rang. It was a call from the hospital. "Ms. Morgan! There's been an emergency! Your father… He's passed away..."

Chapter 3 Chapter 3

I ran through the hospital in a panic, only to find my father's body lying still, covered by a white sheet. He would never open his eyes to look at me again. I felt like the whole world was crashing down. "Dad!" I collapsed to my knees, sobbing, my hands searching for any sign of warmth, but all I felt was a cold, lifeless body. The hands that once guided and protected me were forever stilled. An agony sharper than anything I'd ever known tore through my chest. "Why? Why did this have to happen?" I sobbed. My vision blurred with tears as I grabbed the healer's coat and screamed, "How could my father just die like this?" The healer looked guilty. "I'm so sorry, Ms. Morgan. It was Ms. Cole… She said the hospital needed to save on electricity and ordered us to cut the power. "Mr. Cole told us her word was as good as his. After the power was cut for half an hour, the ventilator stopped working. We did everything we could… But your father…" Cassandra! It was her again! A surge of fury and hatred consumed me. As I fought back my tears, I asked the healer to handle my father's arrangements. Then, I shifted into my wolf and dashed home like a flash of silver lightning. But as soon as I reached the house, deafening music greeted me. Cassandra was throwing a party. I was about to kick down the door when I heard her voice drift out above the noise, talking to her friends. "If her useless father hadn't saved Sebastian, do you really think he would've ever marked Vivian? She was never good enough for him!" "So, you ruined their marking ceremony?" "Of course!" Cassandra said, her voice sickeningly sweet as she spoke the cruelest words. "Sebastian wanted to mark that vixen on my mom's death anniversary! It disgusted me! So, I arranged for those Rogues to take out her mom." "Aren't you scared she'll find out and come after you?" Cassandra just laughed smugly. "Why would I be scared? Sebastian will always protect me! Now that her useless father is dead, what do you think he'll do? At most, he'll tell me to behave. That's it!" Every word from her lips ripped away the last of my restraint. Something inside me snapped. A furious howl erupted from my chest, shattering the party's music. I kicked the door open and lunged at Cassandra, my claws slashing across her face as blood sprayed. She shrieked and fell to the floor, clutching her face in disbelief. "You! How dare you hurt me?" With a shout, she called for help. Several male wolves shifted instantly and pinned me to the ground. "Your father was just a lowly Omega. He was wasting hospital resources. I did you a favour by saving that money!" Cassandra strutted over in her heels and pressed her foot down on my face, grinding it into the floor. Her eyes gleamed with triumph. The pain was so sharp it nearly knocked the air out of me. "Idiot, do you get it now? I could kill your parents, and you too. Sebastian will always take my side." Cassandra sneered down at me. "And you? You're nothing but trash." The pounding music drowned out my cries as her friends joined in, kicking and hitting me. I tried to fight back, but it only led to more brutal blows and the searing pain of silver. I was trained, but there were too many of them. Soon, I was left gasping for breath, bruised and barely conscious, staring up at Cassandra through a haze of blood and rage. "Cassandra... You will pay for this..." I said through ragged breaths. "Pay?" She sneered, slapping my face. "Pathetic. You still don't see how things are? I'll show you what real pain feels like." Then, she turned to her followers and ordered coldly, "Lock her in the dark room!" They tied up my hands and feet and threw me into a dark storage room. The darkness only made the grief worse, crashing down on me. Both my parents were gone, and my world had fallen apart. I struggled to break free, but the ropes were too tight. Just then, I heard Sebastian's voice outside the door. For a moment, I felt a spark of hope. But when I looked through a crack, I saw Cassandra push Sebastian onto the bed and climb on top of him. "What's all the noise out here?" Sebastian asked, pinching her nose. "Tell everyone to leave. Vivian doesn't like all this noise." Cassandra pressed herself against him, her voice soft and seductive as she twisted in his lap and ran her tongue along his throat. "You're obviously responding to me, Sebastian. Why are you still pretending?" Sebastian frowned, his voice strained. "Cassandra, you're my sister..." She got up off him. "So you don't want me? Then, I'll just find someone else." He immediately pulled her back, holding her tightly. "Don't go! Cassandra, you really are a little devil... No one else can ever know about this. Vivian is my Luna." In the next second, they tore at each other's clothes, desperate and hurried. Through the narrow crack of the door, the light caught the outline of their bodies tangled together. Sebastian possessed her with a rough urgency, letting out a low growl of satisfaction. I pressed my hand over my mouth, nails digging into my palm so deeply that I nearly drew blood. Deep inside, the mate bond shook violently, and my wolf howled in agony. The pain was sharper than any burn from silver. My lips bled as I bit down, the taste of blood spreading across my tongue. The man who was supposed to be my mate betrayed me with the woman he called his sister. I was overwhelmed by unbearable pain. I curled up, unable to shed a single tear. Numbness and devastation took over, leaving nothing but a cold, burning hatred.

Chapter 4 Chapter 4

I didn't know how much time had passed before the disgusting noises outside finally stopped. After Sebastian left, Cassandra walked in. She crouched in front of me, her face twisted in fake sympathy. "Did you see everything clearly? Sebastian is obsessed with me. Do you really think he'd ever punish me? "If I were you, I would've found a quiet place and swallowed wolfsbane by now. What a pathetic loser!" "Suicide?" My eyes were dry now, stripped of all tears and left with nothing but cold resolve. "Why should I be the one to die when you're still alive? You're a murderer!" Before she could react, I lunged and slammed her to the ground. She clearly didn't realize that I was stronger than most shewolves, or that I'd been training for years. The ropes binding me had been broken for a while already. Cassandra's eyes widened in shock and fear, but she still tried to bluff. "How dare you? If you lay a hand on me, Sebastian will cancel the marking ceremony! You'll be left with nothing!" With a sharp motion, I snapped her arm. She let out a shrill, piercing scream, her face pale as she nearly passed out from the pain. "I don't care." I shook her off and wiped my hands, as if discarding something filthy. "I couldn't care less about those things anymore." I didn't kill her. There were more important things I needed to do. I quickly drafted a formal agreement to break the mate bond and had someone deliver it to Sebastian right away. I had just taken photos of Sebastian and Cassandra in bed together. With such solid proof, the Elder Council would have no reason to reject my request to break the mate bond with Sebastian. Thanks to them, it was finally coming to an end. After everything was settled, I drove to the hospital for the abortion procedure. ... Night had fallen, but I still hadn't returned home. Sebastian sat at the empty, cold dining table, feeling an unexplainable sense of irritation. He thought I was still grieving my father and blamed him and Cassandra for everything that had happened. With a scowl, he called me, but I didn't pick up. It wasn't until the fourth call that I finally answered. He snapped, "Why aren't you home so late? Don't forget you're still my Luna! Your father was barely holding on anyway. Just let it go..." He was still talking when a healer's voice came over the line. "Ms. Morgan, we're ready to begin the procedure." Sebastian was stunned. "Where are you? What procedure?" "An abortion," I replied, my voice as cold as steel, stabbing through him. Before he could say another word, I hung up and walked into the operating room. Sebastian sat there holding his phone, glaring at the busy signal. He was convinced I was using pregnancy as leverage because of my father's death. Deep down, though, a vague unease crept in. He grabbed his coat and rushed out the door. Just then, his Beta, Ethan Granger, entered carrying an urgent file. "Alpha Sebastian, sorry to disturb you, but this is urgent…" Sebastian tore open the envelope and was met with the glaring red stamp of the agreement to break the mate bond . The words stabbed into his heart like a thousand needles, and his hands began to tremble as he held the paper. A terrifying realization hit him. "Vivian wants to break our mate bond? Was the surgery real?" Panic overtook him. With his eyes reddened in panic, he yelled at Ethan, "The hospital! Go to the hospital now! Stop Vivian! Go!" But there was no way they could find me at any nearby hospital. I had chosen the most remote one I could find on purpose. At the closest hospital, a healer stammered nervously, "Alpha, Ms. Morgan isn't here..." "She comes here for checkups all the time! How could you not know she was with pup?" Sebastian roared. The healer twisted her hands anxiously. "Ms. Morgan... She said she wanted to surprise you at the marking ceremony. She specifically asked us to keep it secret. We... We never thought it would turn out like this..." Sebastian felt like the whole world was spinning around him. At that moment, Ethan finally tracked down my location. By the time Sebastian burst into the remote hospital, the procedure was already over. Pale and drained, I walked out of the operating room, my hand resting gently on my abdomen. The moment Sebastian saw my pale face, he knew the pup was gone. He felt his heart shatter completely. "Vivian..." he choked out, his voice breaking. "Vivian... Our pup..." It was as if all his strength had left him. He collapsed onto the cold floor, his expensive suit scraping against the tiles. "Vivian..." His voice was hollow and desperate as he asked, "How did we end up like this?"
