The scorching Phoenix sun beat down on the pavement as I walked home from Carl Hayden. My mind drifted, anticipating the cool relief of my house, when a red Honda Civic truck screeched to a halt beside me. Before I could process it, a man, no older than nineteen with sandy hair and piercing grey eyes, was out of the vehicle.

He grabbed my arm with surprising force, yanking me towards the truck. Panic flared, and I struggled, pulling with all my might, but his grip was unyielding. A cold, metallic glint caught my eye—a blade. It pressed against my throat, and his voice, a low hiss, cut through the afternoon air: "Shut up if you don't want to die!" My struggles ceased. Whimpering, I nodded, and the world tilted as I was forced inside.
