In Love With A Sociopath

The last year of high school, and Mary's life was taking an unwelcome turn.
"Of course, I'm moving to a brand new school on the last year of my high school experience. Right when I just got used to my old one." The thought echoed in her mind as she slammed her car door shut, the sound echoing the frustration simmering within her.
Gladstone High loomed large, a polished mansion compared to her old, small-town school. Its perfect, spotless facade felt almost mocking. Inside, the principal greeted her with a smile that seemed professionally paid, handing over a schedule that felt heavy with the weight of a new beginning.
English. Physics. Ceramics. Lunch. AP Calculus. AP Psychology. Study Hall.
Lost in thought, she almost missed the pile of books and a small slip of paper with her locker combination. Her luck held long enough for the locker to open on the first try, a small victory.
But good luck, it seemed, was fleeting. Fifteen minutes late, she stumbled into English class, every eye in the room turning to stare. "Sorry, I got lost," she mumbled, her cheeks burning.
"No worries. You're Mary, right? Just go take a seat next to Kevin, in the back corner." The teacher's words. And then she saw him. Kevin. And her heart, inexplicably, stopped.
