The final school bell shrieked, a joyous sound signaling the end of another day. You, Y/N, along with your friends Bear, Eddie, Katie, and Nathaniel (Nate), were already buzzing with the promise of relaxation.

"Have you heard?" Bear asked, his voice low with manufactured mystery.

Katie, ever curious, leaned in. "Heard of what?"

"Yeah, what's up, Bear?" you chimed in, a hint of impatience in your tone. You were ready for video games, not vague rumors.

Bear puffed out his chest. "About the strange machine at the end of the forest..."

Eddie scoffed. "That old thing?"

"Yeah!" Bear insisted, his eyes wide. "I've heard that if you insert a coin and crank it, the only prize you get is a demon!"

Nate, always a little timid, flinched. "A-A demon?!"

Bear's grin widened, a teasing glint in his eye. "What's the matter, Nate? You scared?"

"Knock it off, Bear!" you snapped, stepping forward. "There's no way any of that's true."

"Oh, yeah?!" Bear reached into his pocket, pulling out a small, red coin. "If you're so brave, why don't you go and get something outta there?"

Without a second thought, you snatched the coin from his hand. "Deal! And when nothing happens, you have to apologize to Nate!" The final bell rang then, its sound swallowed by the rush of students, as your group split, each heading home. You, however, had a detour to make. As you walked towards the forest, the coin a surprisingly heavy weight in your palm, a flicker of doubt sparked within you. "I'm not scared or anything! T-There's no way demons are actually living in a little machine... is there?"
