Lorraine, a 26-year-old whirlwind of sarcasm and efficiency, despises the very idea of love, convinced her past has eaten her alive. She’s perfected the art of keeping men at arm’s length, especially the infuriatingly charming kind. But when her monster boss, Shirley, drops a bombshell—her equally infuriating, equally charming brother, Bradley, is Lorraine’s new boss—her carefully constructed walls begin to crack. He’s the man from the Mexican restaurant, the one she swore she'd never see again. Can Lorraine maintain her steely resolve against a man determined to break through her defenses, or will she discover that even monsters can inspire a newfound, complicated love?

“Lorraine, you can’t just get away with your work!” Leah, my best friend, started scolding me, but I just gave her an annoying grin. “C’mon, I’m hungry!” I grumbled. She put her hand on her hip. “Leah, 10 minutes… before our boss gets back here…” I added, grabbing my bag. “Lorraine, she needed the work by 3 and it’s already 12:30,” she said, looking at my paperwork. I grinned. “I’m already done, Lee,” I said, walking to the elevator. I’m Lorraine Clavinely, or Lorri, 26 years old, living in California. I work at the Harrollaw Advertising Company as the secretary to my human-slash-monster boss, Shirley Harrollaw. I hate her, but I have to work to pay my bills.
