A New York Love

The rhythmic click of my keyboard was the only sound in the office, a familiar comfort in the otherwise stifling corporate air. "He walked down the dark road to get to the alley where he promised to meet her. She was a beauty and she knew it. With her dark raven hair flowing down her back flowing in the rainy breeze-"
"Hey Ellie, do you want to come to the club this weekend?"
I looked up to see Brooklyn, my best friend and one of my only escapes from this tedious work atmosphere. She leaned against my cubicle, a bright splash of color in a sea of beige.
"Hey Brook, I'm not sure. I'll have to rain check because I don't know whether I've got to work this weekend. Sorry."
She pouted, an expression that, I had to admit, made her look ridiculously adorable. "Aww and I was looking forward to getting drunk with my party girl! Right then, I better get back to work before I get accused for slacking off!"
"You're always slacking off!" I called after her, a loud, hyena-like laugh echoing back from her as she walked away. Another day, another chapter in the glamorous life of a corporate secretary.
