The biting cold of the ice rink was a familiar embrace, a second skin for Reece Adair. He walked out of the locker room, the scent of sweat and ambition clinging to him, Tucker Bailey's voice a constant hum in his ear.

"Come on, you have to admit coach was kinda a pain in the ass today," Tucker grinned, nudging him.

Reece just shook his head. "Isn't he always?"

But his attention drifted. The rink, usually their domain, was swarming with figures. About twenty girls, all with skates strapped to their feet, had taken over.

He strode to the edge of the ice, picking out a brunette with a black long-sleeve and leggings, a sliver of tan skin exposed at her midriff. "Hey!" he yelled, his voice echoing. She turned, skated over, and fixed him with an unimpressed gaze.

"Can I help you?" she asked, her tone dry.

"Yeah!" Reece shot back. "You can help me understand why you're in our rink."

A smile, barely there, played on her lips. "It's my understanding that the rink belongs to the college, and unless you own the college, then I don't think it actually belongs to you."

"We're the hockey team."

Her eyes rolled. "Congratulations." With that, she turned and skated back to a blonde guy, leaving Reece and Tucker staring after her, the air crackling with annoyance.
