The rhythmic thumps grew louder, shaking the very ground beneath me. Across the cage, a man screamed, pressing himself into the farthest corner, burying his face in his knees. I rolled my eyes. As if that would keep him from being next.

The trembling grew violent, a deep, resonant vibration that hummed through my bones. I closed my eyes, clenching my fists, taking a shuddering breath in, and then out. The trembling stopped.

I opened my eyes just as an enormous, blue-skinned face filled the front of my cage. Sharp jawline, pointed nose, flawless skin, and magenta eyes narrowed at me. His gargantuan hand reached for the lid. They came from beyond the stars, superior in every way. Just like us, they desired everything they laid their eyes upon.
