The stale air of Mark's apartment was thick with the scent of instant noodles and the faint hum of a cheap TV show.
"Hey, Mark, you're home early today." Sue, his roommate, barely looked up from her phone, her bright voice a stark contrast to his usual quiet demeanor. He just grunted a reply, a familiar rhythm to their shared, uneventful lives.
But as he ate, a subtle shift in the air, a strange tremor in Sue's casual twitch, began to prickle at the edge of his awareness. Her skin, flushed and unnaturally red, signaled something deeply, terribly wrong. Before he could fully process it, Sue’s body convulsed, sending the dinner table crashing.
She collapsed, convulsing, transforming before his eyes. Her skin turned ashen, pupils vanished, and a guttural roar tore from her throat. This wasn't Sue anymore. This was something else, something monstrous. The world, it seemed, had decided to end with a whimper and a grotesque snarl.
