The Delhi sun, a golden accomplice, streamed through Kiaraβs bedroom curtains, painting warm stripes on her walls. Her phone, a persistent buzz on the bedside table, finally broke through her deep slumber. "Hello?" she mumbled, her voice thick with sleep.
"Kiara! Are you still sleeping? God, you... our results will be out in an hour!" Shikhaβs voice, a frantic mix of excitement and urgency, jolted Kiara awake. "Oh shit! Give me half an hour, I'll be there," Kiara stammered, all traces of sleep evaporating.
She leaped out of bed, muttering a quick prayer to Mahadev, and quickly dressed in a white kurti and light blue jeans. Slipping her phone into her pocket, she crept downstairs, only to be caught by her mother, arms laden with groceries, at the main door. "Where are you going?" her mother asked, eyeing her suspiciously.
Kiara plastered on an overly sweet smile. "Uh... Mumma, mandir Darshan krne. My result is coming out today, so I thought I'd visit the temple."
Her motherβs quip, "Darshan karne or bhagwan ko maska marne?" only made Kiara rush out faster, hopping onto her cycle and pedalling towards the park where her friends waited.
