The fluorescent lights of the deserted classroom hummed, casting a sterile glow on the mountain of paperwork before Celeste. Her friends, Jessica, Lillian, and Annabelle, had long since departed, leaving her to the solitary plight of the student body president.

"Who said being student body president was easy?" she muttered to herself, pushing stray strands of hair from her face. Winter formal planning, conduct reports – the endless tasks blurred before her tired eyes.

An hour later, papers neatly tucked into folders, she finally stood, stretching the kinks from her back. The school halls were swallowed by an inky darkness, save for the faint glow of the moon filtering through distant windows.

A sliver of light caught her eye from an open classroom door. Curiosity, a trait often at odds with her organized nature, pulled her closer. Peeking inside, she found a hunched figure, illuminated only by the harsh glare of a phone screen. Disheveled hair, a face she didn't recognize, etched with frustration.

Cautiously, she stepped in, tapping his shoulder. His head shot up, eyes wide with alarm, then narrowed into a scowl. "What are you doing here?" he snapped, his voice rough.

"Finishing some work," Celeste replied, trying to keep her voice steady. "What are you doing here?"

"None of your business," he scoffed, and Celeste felt her temper rise. Before she could retort, the world plunged into darkness. The school's electricity died, plunging them into an oppressive silence.

"Looks like we're locked in," the stranger's voice, surprisingly calm, cut through the gloom. A heavy sigh escaped Celeste's lips. This was going to be a long night.
