The Fire Triangle, A Zootopia Fanfiction -- Part One

The sun beat down on Sahara Square, baking the alabaster facade of Rafaj Brothers' Fine Jewelers. Inside, Ahmed al-Rafaj, a golden jackal with an almost permanent air of weary patience, thumbed a code into a tablet. The soft click of the security system disarming echoed in the opulent, if slightly dated, interior.
He called out in Arabic, "Are you seeing the cameras, Ismael?"
From beyond a beaded curtain, his brother's touchy voice replied, "All visible here."
Ahmed sighed, adjusting his red fez. Another day, another round of testing the emergency shutters. He didn't enjoy this, but routine was king in Sahara Square. "On the count of three, Rashid." he instructed the hulking hippo security guard by the door.
"Yes, sir," Rashid rumbled, stepping back.
"One...two...three!" Ahmed slapped the panic button, plunging the store into momentary twilight as steel shutters slammed down. Satisfied, he reset them, the mechanism whining as they slowly retracted.
Just as he nodded for Rashid to open for business, the chime above the door tinkled. Two figures entered, and Ahmed's practiced, ingratiating smile froze. A fox and a rabbit, holding paws. His teeth clamped like a vice. This was going to be a long morning.
