Bad Moon Rising// Jacob Black
After a decade in sunny Florida, Wysteria Redbird is thrust back into the quiet, rain-soaked world of the Quileute Reservation following her father's sudden death. Forced to live with a mother she barely remembers and confront a past shrouded in her father's harsh words, Wysteria soon discovers the Reservation holds more than just old memories. The familiar face of a grown-up Jacob Black, the whispers of fear and awe from the locals, and a strange singing in her blood hint at a deeper truth about her family, her heritage, and the real reasons behind her parents' separation. Can Wysteria unravel the secrets of her past and embrace a destiny she never knew awaited her?

The relentless drumming of rain on the school's awning provided a dismal soundtrack to Wysteria Redbird’s mounting anxiety. Her phone, clutched in her hand, stubbornly displayed no new messages from her father, Brynn Redbird. It was almost five o'clock, well past pick-up time, and the school parking lot had long since emptied, save for her lone, shivering figure.

She'd insisted he get a smartphone, arguing for emergencies, but now, when she needed him most, he was silent. Her calls went unanswered, and the police station, where he usually worked, was closed today, his day off. A sigh escaped her, fogging in the damp air.

Then, a pair of headlights cut through the gloom, a police car slowly pulling into the lot. Relief flooded Wysteria, quickly followed by a cold dread as she saw it wasn't her father behind the wheel, but Officer Allen Chase, his partner. Her heart began to pound a frantic rhythm against her ribs. She wrenched open the passenger door, the rain instantly soaking her.

“Did… did my dad send you?” she stammered, her voice thin. “Where is he?” Officer Chase didn't meet her eyes. A sickening feeling began to coil in her stomach.
