The relentless drizzle of Forks was a stark contrast to the scorching Phoenix sun Luna had known her entire life. She stared out the window of Bella's beat-up truck, watching the blurred greens and grays pass by. Every tree seemed to weep, just like her heart.
"Still quiet, huh?" Bella's voice was soft, not accusatory. Luna just hummed in response, pulling her worn hoodie tighter around her.
They pulled up to the familiar, albeit slightly ramshackle, Swan house. Charlie was already outside, a worried frown etched onto his face. Luna offered a weak smile, but her eyes were fixed on the rain-slicked driveway, a sudden, vivid memory of another wet road, another car, flashing behind her eyes.
She took a deep, shaky breath, the cold air filling her lungs, but doing little to calm the tremor in her hands. This was it. Forks. Another new beginning she didn't want.
