A Vampire's Love - Edward Cullen (Twilight saga)

The persistent patter of rain against the car window was the first thing I noticed. Forks. A name that sounded less like a town and more like a kitchen utensil, a fact that almost made me chuckle. My gaze drifted from the blurred passing trees to the dreary, overcast sky. This was it, our new home.
Mom, Chief Detective Heta Brown, had been transferred here. Dad, Hakeem Brown, a surgeon, would start at the local hospital soon. Both of them, oddly enough, thrived in fields steeped in the very sight that made my stomach churn: blood. And then there was me, Aiyanna, disgusted by it. The irony wasn't lost on me.
As the car slowed, turning into the alley of a small, unassuming house, I became more aware of my surroundings. The neighborhood was quiet, almost eerily so, framed by a dense forest. Forks, true to my research, was small, quiet, and perpetually gray, with the sun making a rare appearance. It was a far cry from what I was used to.
Stepping out, a chorus of bone cracks echoed as I stretched. "You'd say she's older than the both of us reunited," Dad joked to Mom, earning a shrug from me. "I'm getting older, you know?"
"You turn seventeen in a few days, what are you talking about?" Mom chuckled. "Just wait until you're thirty."
"I might already be in a retirement home by then," I retorted, grabbing a suitcase. Our furniture was still days away, meaning a weekend of unpacking and inflatable beds. The prospect of school loomed. No bus, definitely no walking. Mom would drop me off early, a small price to pay for a new beginning. Dad opened the front door, and as I stepped inside, I sighed. It was time to start all over again.
