The biting wind whipped Lorena's hair across her face, each gust a mocking whisper of the freedom she was rapidly losing. Her wrists burned, chafed raw by the ropes, and the sight of her home, shrinking behind her with every agonizing step, twisted a knot in her stomach.
"Papa! Mama! Help me!" she screamed, her voice hoarse, but her parents' faces were etched with a helplessness that mirrored her own.
