The lingering scent of sweat and damp earth clung to Elisia Knight as she jogged across the training grounds. "Caleb! You were great on the grounds today." she called out, a proud smile gracing her lips as the thirteen-year-old beamed back at her. "But you need to remember to use your whole body; you can strike down your opponent using knees, stomps, elbows and punches."

Another day of training the younger wolves, another day of pushing limits. It was her nineteenth birthday, a fact many of her students had cheerfully announced throughout the day, much to her mild annoyance. She preferred to keep such things quiet.

She chuckled to herself, sinking onto the grass, the setting sun painting the sky in fiery hues. The peaceful moment was broken by the familiar approach of footsteps. "It's not hard to guess who told everyone it's my birthday today."

Jayden, her adoptive brother and the future Alpha, flopped down beside her, laughing. "Turning nineteen isn't something to hide, so I felt like it was my job to blab it to everyone and their pets."

She rolled her eyes playfully, the comfortable silence settling between them as they watched the sun dip below the horizon. The pack party was probably already in full swing, a rare large gathering that filled her with a strange mix of anticipation and nervousness.
