Human Luna #Wattys2016

The smell of cinnamon rolls, a Crest tradition for the first day of school, wafted upstairs, pulling Luciana from a restless sleep. She quickly showered and dressed, eager for the warm, gooey treat her mother promised. Downstairs, her mom poured milk, a soft smile on her face.
"Morning, mom!" Lucy called, stepping into the kitchen. Her mother chuckled, handing her a cup.
"Well, someone looks happy for her first day of senior year." Lucy shook her head, a playful grin on her face. "I'm excited for those rolls, woman! Now, lay 'em on me."
Her mother laughed, handing her bookbag. "They're in your bookbag with your lunch. I want you to get to school early so you can walk around and find your classes." Lucy nodded, understanding the wisdom in her mother's words.
"That's a good idea, mom, thanks." Her mother gave her a quick kiss on the cheek, then shooed her out the door. "Okay, now go. Can't wait to hear all about it when you get back."
Lucy hopped into Dill, her trusty 2004 red Jeep Liberty, and pulled out of the driveway, a mix of nerves and excitement bubbling within her. A new school, a new town, and a whole new life. Little did she know, this new life held far more than just academic challenges and new friends.
