Forgive Me (Rewriting)

The dining room of the pack house hummed with the usual cacophony of voices, but for Madeline, it was merely a backdrop to the familiar sting of malice. "What are you doing here? Didn't you get the hint last time? No one wants you here bitch!" Jessica George's voice, shrill and cutting, pierced through the air.

Madeline flinched, the sharp words a familiar assault. She kept her gaze down, her mind racing with retorts she'd never voice. To speak back was to invite further punishment, a lesson learned through countless beatings.

Jessica waved a dismissive hand, her friends snickering. "What? Nothing to say? Get out of my sight loser." Madeline turned, a silent roll of her eyes her only rebellion. The dining hall, a buffet for others, was a battlefield for her.

She ascended the stairs to her room, the door locking behind her with a soft click, a fragile barrier against the world. From her window, she watched the coming and going of pack members, a silent observer, the pack omega – the lowest of the low. Her parents, once powerful, were gone, their deaths a mystery she couldn't shake. A knock on the door jolted her from her thoughts, a summons to Alpha George's office, a summons that always heralded pain.
