Rejected At First Sight

Rejected At First Sight
Evangeline’s world is upended when her family moves to the mysterious Lupus Harbor, a town where first impressions are brutally swift. On her first day at a new school, she encounters Ashton Carter, the captivating and infuriating 'hottest boy in school,' who inexplicably rejects her. But his rejection isn't just a social slight; it triggers a series of bewildering events and a strange, burning pain within her. Is it just a rough start, or is there something more profound, and terrifying, happening beneath the surface of this seemingly ordinary new town?

The relentless San Diego sun streamed through the window, mocking the somber mood that clung to Evangeline’s bedroom like a shroud. Her best friend, Kristin, sat cross-legged on the bed, chin propped on her hand, conjuring increasingly desperate and absurd plans to prevent Evie’s impending move.

“So what if I trap you in my closet and only let you go when they agree to not move?” Kristin mused, her blue eyes fixed on the ceiling.

Evie sighed, mirroring Kristin’s pose with an imaginary beard stroke. “You already had that idea yesterday. And the day before, and the day before that,” she added, a wry grin twitching at her lips. “Now quit sitting around and doing nothing and help me pack the rest of my clothes.”

Kristin dramatically flipped her blonde hair. “Only if I can help you throw away some of that crap you call clothing.” The mound of clothes by the closet seemed to mock them both, a physical representation of their dwindling time together.
