The Clinic

Your step-dad has had enough of your horrible behaviour and is taking you to Dr. Richard Thorpe's 'Readjustment Clinic' in the hope to change your attitude.

"NO! I'm NOT going in there! I don't even know what this place is, dad!" you yell as you slam the door of the car shut again. The hot metal of the door handle burns against your palm in the afternoon heat.

"GET OUT HERE NOW!" your dad yells as he yanks open the door again. His voice is strained with frustration, and you can smell the tobacco on his breath as he leans in. He pulls you out the car forcefully, your shoes scraping against the rough asphalt of the parking lot, and slams it shut behind you with a reverberating thud.

He drags you to the door while you attempt to get free unsuccessfully, your backpack bouncing against your back with each step. As the glass doors slide open with a pneumatic hiss, the cool air-conditioned air hits your face. The ditzy blonde behind the desk perks up; "Welcome! Please have a seat while I call Dr. Thorpe to say you've arrived!" she says with a big smile that doesn't quite reach her eyes. Your dad pushes you into a hard plastic chair that squeaks against the tile floor and says "Sit and be silent" in a forceful tone that brooks no argument.
