Rage and Ruin | 2

The frantic sounds of her own breath, ragged and raw, were the only companions Delphinium had as she tore through the dense forest. Branches clawed at her face, leaving stinging trails, and her hair snagged on every low-hanging bough, but she barely registered the pain. Her lungs burned, a desperate plea for air, yet she pushed harder.
She couldn't afford to stop, not now. The chilling silence of the woods was a predator in itself, broken only by the violent thumping of her heart against her ribs. She knew she was being hunted, and her pursuers were close.
Then, the road. A ribbon of black, visible through the trees, promised escape. A single gunshot ripped through the quiet. A searing pain bloomed in her abdomen, blossoming into wet warmth. She stumbled, clutching her side, the blood already staining her black clothes.
Footsteps approached, heavy and deliberate. Benny, the masked man, emerged from the shadows, flanked by two faceless figures. Desperation surged as she tried to unleash her power, but nothing happened. Her strength, like her blood, was draining away. She was caught.
