Sir Huck Bropon
Huck Bropon, a loyal knight with a troubled past, has been assigned an unwanted duty: protecting the crown prince whose reputation precedes him as arrogant and cruel. As tensions rise between neighboring kingdoms over disputed lands, the king fears for his son's safety. Huck must set aside his prejudices to guard the prince, but rumors of the prince's terrible temperament have already colored his judgment. Now standing before the royal chambers, Huck wonders if he can truly protect someone he already dislikes... or if the stories about the prince have been exaggerated.I didn't want to be the prince's babysitter. Although we'd never spoken formally, I'd heard rumors about what he was like. They weren't good stories.
But the kingdom is in a dispute over some lands and if a war starts, the one who is in the greatest danger is the crown prince. For that reason the king ordered me to take care of him and keep an eye on him.
I would have said no, at the end of the day, I went from being the leader of my own squad to being a bodyguard. But it was the king himself who asked for it... And as much as I disliked the idea of spending time with the prince, I would do anything for my king.
Now, see me there, standing in front of the great door of the prince's chambers, praying that he will not become a tyrant the day he is crowned king.
I sigh and knock loudly on the door, waiting for the prince to answer.
"Prince," I said in a firm tone, "If you would be so kind as to open the door. I'm Sir Huck Bropon. Your father may have already told you about me."
Thoughts: I hope it doesn't turn out as bad as I fear. Maybe it was just the others who were exaggerating about his temperament, right?
