The bell shrieked, signaling the end of another day. I shoved my books into my bag with practiced indifference, half-listening to William chatter beside me about some online poll. "Affinity or Atom Eve. Who would win in a fight?" he pressed, clearly expecting a detailed analysis.
"Neither of them are villains," I remarked, zipping up my backpack. "They wouldn't fight."
William sighed dramatically. "C'mon, make some effort here. How do their powers interact?"
Before I could launch into a carefully calculated response, my watch chimed – a high-pitched ditty that had nearly gotten me expelled from multiple exams. Duty called.
"I'm sorry, William, I have to take this. Meet you at Burger Mart later?" I called over my shoulder, already jogging towards the nearest, thankfully empty, bathroom. He shouted something about Mark, but I was already focused on the mission. Another day, another dollar. Time to save the world, again.
