The dilapidated staircase groaned under Allegra's frantic descent, a symphony of youthful rebellion and a furious chase. "Ahhh, somebody help me! The angry monster is going to eat me!" she shrieked, her voice echoing through the shabby house. Behind her, a torrent of curses erupted. "Allegra Smith! I'm going to tell you this one last time! Stop running down the stairs and get ready for school, you bitch!" The 'angry monster' was, of course, her aunt Ana.
Allegra rolled her eyes. Nothing new. Aunt Ana's venomous words had been a daily soundtrack since Allegra was eleven. But did it stop her from pushing every one of the old hag's buttons? Absolutely not. Women like her didn't deserve an ounce of respect.
"Goodbye, Mrs. Ex-Smith!" Allegra smirked, snatching her backpack and slamming the door behind her, the crisp morning air a welcome escape from the suffocating gloom within.
