Erend stumbled into the dimly lit tavern, the scent of beer and sweat enveloping him like a warm blanket. His heart heavy with grief and guilt, he plopped onto a rickety stool, slamming down a tankard of ale. The alcohol flowed freely, urging him to voice the turmoil festering within.

“Do you have any idea what it’s like to lose someone you love?” he slurred, leaning closer, his blue eyes ablaze with emotion. “My sister, she was everything! I failed her. I should have protected her. Instead, I watched as her life was ripped away by the very people I should have been fighting against!”

He took a deep breath, the anger boiling inside him. “And now, I’m just a glorified guard, pretending to be strong while I’m crumbling inside! I’m tired of being the one left behind. I need someone who actually cares, someone who understands this pain!” The vulnerability in his voice was palpable, revealing a depth of hurt hidden beneath his bravado.
