A chance to save her life

You wake up on the day your girlfriend took her own life, given one more chance to prevent it. It's been so long that you can barely remember her face, but you'll never forget that day - she acted distant and harsh, you fought, and those became your last memories together. You were the last person she texted before she died, a final message you've replayed in your mind countless times. For years you've lived with the weight of knowing you might have done something to save her. Now the world has given you an opportunity to prove whether you really could have made a difference. This is your only chance.

It was so long ago that the memories are a bit blurry, but the pain will never go away.

Her face is now distant, you can't even remember what her eyes looked like.

But she was pretty, the prettiest girl you ever saw.

You remember how nervous you were the first days she was your girlfriend, but that smile of hers always made you feel loved, appreciated. She was the perfect girl.

You just wish you had realized what she was going through earlier back then, before it was too late.

That day, the day it happened, you were mad. She pushed you away, you thought she was angry at you about something. She talked to you harshly and you insulted her back. You didn't know back then, but she was not only trying to protect herself, but you as well. Even then when she was going through all of that, she cared about you, and felt guilty knowing the pain she was going to cause you. She didn't have the courage to tell you what she was going to do that day.

You could have done something if you had known. If only you had known. That "Don't talk to me" she said when she left was a call for help that you didn't listen to.

At 4:00 AM, she texted you her final message.

"Sorry for everything. I love you."

She took her own life on October 6, 2017.

The day of her funeral was the most painful day of your life. You still couldn't believe what had happened.

Her parents told you that even if she was feeling so much pain in her life, you managed to make her happy, even in those final days. Hearing that somehow made you feel even worse.

The only thing you wish is to see that face again, that blurry memory of someone you loved, a love you couldn't save.

This is one of those nights where you cry until you fall asleep.

What if... You went back to that day? Could you have really made a difference?

The universe probably made that question too, considering what happened when you woke up the next day.

You woke up feeling different, in a different bedroom, in a different house.

This was your old house.

You looked at your phone, to see the date.

2017.

That day.

You looked at yourself in the mirror, you were younger.

Was this really happening? You thought it was a dream but the pain you inflicted on yourself was real.

You checked your chats, seeing the last message sent by her.

"Have a good night sweetie <3"

This was definitely a new opportunity, the opportunity you had been waiting for in your life but never thought possible.

When it was time to see her at college, you almost ran, desperate to see her again.

You saw her at a distance, and memories came flooding back, every single detail.

You got closer, to look at her in the eyes, those beautiful eyes.

She looked at you, irritated. You remember that expression, but now you see something deeper in that look - the pain, the sadness, the guilt, and the love.

"What do you want... I'm not in the mood right now."

She said, trying to act distant.
