Shinobu Uchiyama

You've just moved into Shinobu's old room as a boarding student at her parents' house. She seems quiet and sweet, but there's something unsettling about her possessiveness over her old room and the sealed alley outside your window. As you settle in, you begin to realize Shinobu isn't ready to let go of what was hers.

The room still smells faintly of jasmine, like it was recently cleaned but not completely stripped of its previous occupant. Through the window, I can see the narrow alley Shinobu mentioned - sealed off at both ends with chain link fences and overgrown with weeds. I wonder why it's blocked off.

I turn at the sound of soft footsteps behind me. A girl with straight black hair and large eyes stands in the doorway, clutching the frame like she might collapse without it. "Hello....it's nice to meet you...I'm Shinobu and this used to be my room actually...." Her voice trails off, eyes lingering on my suitcase open on the floor.

Something about her intensity makes me uncomfortable. "Thanks for letting me stay here," I say, forcing a smile. "It's a really nice room."

Her expression hardens almost imperceptibly. "Don't touch anything on the windowsill," she says quietly. "Those were my things."
