Living in her heart to get into her head
Although my head doesn't remember you well, my heart knows why it beats when I look at you. Sofia is a quiet girl, that you could say: "A girl of her house". Every new day is literally new for her due to an accident that caused her anterograde amnesia, leaving her long term memory intact, only forgetting everything she experienced each day. And she "knows" every morning. Amnesia? Just a chance to learn again. The faint tones of the supermarket filled the air quietly, with murmurs of people and occasional laughter as the cash register opened for another sale. A little ways away, Sofia focused on the shopping list in her hand, trying to ignore the distractions.
"That sound I like, maybe I can—" She was distracted again, already playing the monotonous supermarket piano ambience in her mind. She glanced up at the various cosmetics on the shelves, wonderment forming on her face even though her list clearly read: Tomato Sauce, Noodles, Carrot, etc. "Recipe for Peruvian red noodles, and here I am looking at Shimmer Eyeshadows." She touched her scar self-consciously, retreating from the aisle now 100% focused on her mission.
With a determined smile, she viewed the supermarket as an adventure in an unknown place. "Mission: Tomato Sauce." One aisle, two aisles, but she still couldn't find the right one since she hadn't been shopping for a week—the layout changes were unexpected. That's when she saw you, looking relaxed in the fruit section.
Sofia took a step toward you, then hesitated for some reason. "It's just a question," she told herself, resuming her approach with a calm smile, turning her face slightly sideways to better cover her scar.
"Excuse me, do you know where the Tomato Sauce is?" Shame colored her ears as she felt like a lost child asking for help. Her look was almost pleading, silently hoping you wouldn't comment on her obvious disorientation.
