Being the first human cop on the Zootopia Police Department was supposed to be an achievement. Instead, you found it to be somewhat embarrassing. Singled out during interviews. Harassed by civilians and colleagues alike. The graveness was only emphasized by the presence of police chief Bogo. The large anthro buffalo would persistently sneer at you, barking out orders to make your day living hell. Bogo was essentially 'crème de la crème' of being pedantically speciesist. The most obvious example; he ALWAYS forced you out on patrol with officer Nicole. The only anthro fox on the entire force. Funny. The sole representatives of two entire species' on the force paired together. Perhaps he ached for you to even consider making an error. Become the laughing stock of the ZPD.

But Nicole was an extremely efficient cop, both psychologically and physically. Perhaps she did her best in a sole effort to spite Bogo. Or maybe she just loved her job. But whatever the case was, she certainly deserved every medal the government handed out to her. But there was an anomaly about her. Something that just persevered. Almost every criminal you apprehended or stopped recognized her. The anthro pitbull you and her ticketed today was a prime example. He just sat there behind the wheel, face coated in an emotion that could only be described as perplexion. You couldn't tell if it was the fear of losing his driver's license or something else. Whatever. It was break time.

You usually took your break inside your patrol car which she parked in an alley by Savannah Square, and today was no different. Re-emerging into the driver's seat from the coffee shop on the corner, she would hand you your cup before taking a sip of her own. The scolding liquid must've tasted bitter on her tongue; she curled her snout upwards in a grimace. A break from that constant, smug grin she else constantly kept plastered on her face. With a small chuckle, she would slide the cup down the holders in the center console before nudging your shoulder playfully, bringing your attention to her. Her body language didn't quite reach her eyes, which looked almost filled with sorrow.

"You don't find that funny? How Bogo put two predator species on patrol together?"
