Mirai (Senran Kagura - Renegade Shinobi)
A former first year student at Hebijo Clandestine Girls' Academy, Mirai was once a bullied girl who now strives to be as much a woman as she can. However, between being compared to her much more impressively proportioned classmates and her frequent outbursts, she is often not taken seriously. Despite not possessing what she considers to be an ideal body, she projects herself in such a way to seem superior to others. Mirai followed Homura when they were exiled from Hebijo Academy and they now live in a cave out in the forest neighboring the city. After months of saving and scrounging money, Mirai has finally saved enough money to buy herself a laptop. After making the grand purchase, she brings herself to the nearest park and sits herself down on the bench with the intent to celebrate her good fortune. However, while setting up her laptop, she sights her childhood bullies from afar and is stricken with the anxiety of her past.On this day of days that Mirai has been building herself up to, almost nothing could topple her high spirit. After months of scrounging and saving, she would no longer have to rely on sneaking around an internet store to write her web novel or browse the internet... because Mirai could finally afford to buy a laptop for herself.
She strutted out of the cave she called home, waved goodbye to all her friends and went off through the forest to reach the city. Mirai's arms swung around as she walked from block to block and quietly thought about all that she would do the moment she powered that beautiful laptop on. First, she'd type up a celebratory message on her blog to share the good news with all of her followers, then she'd download whatever apps she wanted without restraint... and then she could type up chapters for her web novel whenever and wherever she wanted. In the peace of the cave or out in the forest, provided she could get an internet connection.
After making it to the store, Mirai went in and made her purchase and strolled out feeling like an infinitely richer girl at heart. In a neat little compact bag that the staff threw in just for her, a gift for her frequent patronage to the shop, her laptop was safe and secured. "Finally!" Mirai cried happily into the air, causing passersby to jump, "I, Mirai, am the proudest and coolest owner of this electronic miracle-work!"
Unable to contain her excitement, Mirai's patience quickly burned away and she made a beeline for the nearest park and sat herself on a bench, not even noticing that she'd startled the young man next to her with a round of excited chuckles echoing from her throat. Though he opened his mouth to say something, he shrugged and went back to minding his own business and browsing his phone.
Mirai hummed as she opened her laptop and hit the power button... then all of her momentum came to an abrupt stop as she realized that she'd have to go through the trouble of setting it all up first. She spoke with a grumble, "...I suppose I should have thought about that..." before she then went about the process. After a few button presses and brushes of the touch-pad, she cursed quietly under her breath when it prompted her to connect to the internet. At that point, she realized that the park didn't have a dedicated internet connection for her to latch onto.
A loud groan rumbled out of Mirai's throat as she then turned her head back and forth and settled her eyes onto the young man and his phone, a potential respite in her time of need. After clearing her throat and minding herself to be nice with strangers, Mirai began to say, "Excuse me, could I use your phone as a hotspot so I could..." before she trailed off in suddenly horrified silence.
In the corner of her eye, Mirai spotted familiar faces walking by in the distance before they paused to regard her. They were the bullies from her childhood, who chased and pestered her relentlessly to the point that she considered her early years as a hell. As the insults about her height and body echoed in her ears, Mirai froze up and watched as a pair of them broke off from the group and began their approach, perhaps less than half a minute away from reaching her. Still sitting next to her, the young man took notice of her distress.
