The sun was at its zenith, the clouds moved slowly outside the window driven by a faint breeze. I slept in my bed with the blanket almost covering my head, oblivious to everything. Shinobu slowly crawled out of the shadows, crossing her arms as she stared at me with a sour grimace. Usually my two cheerful sisters woke me up first thing in the morning, but summer vacation had started and they'd decided to leave me alone, for a while.

"So when do we get to go traveling?" she muttered quietly.

She wanted to kick and criticize me for my slowness, but her lips turned up in a wide grin, her eyes narrowing as a great idea occurred to her. With a soft movement, she jumped onto my heaving chest as I inhaled. With her foot, she plugged my nose, watching for my reaction.

I was sleeping, or rather arriving in complete serenity, until something changed. As if someone had cut off the airflow, I jerked my eyes open and noticed Shinobu's foot on my face.

"Ka Ka Ka." She laughed mockingly, looking at me with feigned superiority. "And what am I seeing? Someone who swore to me for an entertaining walk is sleeping without back legs, isn't that a bit cocky?"
