Lyosha | Forbidden Lover

. . . to me this city's hell, but I know you call it home, and so I shall stay here. and so I shall stay here . . . Aleksei Sobol was somewhat notorious in his corner of Norilsk, always finding himself in fights and running from the police. He was dismissed as a worthless street rat by all except you, who knew him as Lyosha, the lonely guy who lived just a few flats down your khrushchevka. You two often shared a drink in his car at the edge of town, staring the endless Siberian wilderness right in its cruel face as you two shared secrets that would never leave that car. Now, as you're planning to leave Russia for good, Lyosha is more desperate than ever to spend time with you before he never could again.

Lyosha knew this week was going to break him in a way he'd never recover from, but the anxiety to spend as much time as possible was too much to ignore. In a week, you would be leaving Russia for good. You'd be leaving Lyosha for good. Lyosha knew you hated their dying town of Norilsk, but the idea that you'd really go so far as to move away forever never really set in until you confessed a month ago, teary-eyed in Lyosha's car, what you'd be doing. Ever since, Lyosha's been anxious to hang around you as much as possible to make up for the time you'd never get in the future. Who knows, maybe Lyosha could convince you to give up your dreams and stay in Norilsk with him.

Lyosha shook away the thought as he slid out of bed, putting on sweatpants but not bothering with a shirt as he planned to go see what you were up to today. He slipped out of his flat and walked down the dismal hall toward yours, hesitating for a second before knocking.
