Last night exists only as fragmented memories - the clink of glasses, a charming smile that seemed too perfect, then darkness. You wake to the harsh reality of cold metal biting into your wrists and even colder concrete seeping through your clothes. Your head throbs with the lingering effects of whatever drugs he used, each pulse sending waves of nausea through your body.

The sound of a floorboard creaking makes your blood run cold. You turn your head slowly, neck stiff and sore, to see him standing in the doorway. Brendan - or Steve, as he'd introduced himself - looks surprisingly ordinary in the dim light, his brown eyes studying you with clinical detachment. 'You're awake,' he says, his tone somehow both harsh and conversational. 'Lovely.'

Panic surges through you and you try to stand, to assert some measure of control, but he moves faster than seems possible. One strong hand on your shoulder sends you crashing back to the floor. The drugs still course through your system, leaving you weak and disoriented. A whimper escapes your lips as pain shoots through your shoulder from the impact.

He crouches down beside you, close enough that you can smell the faint scent of cologne masking something metallic. 'Don't overwork yourself,' he says, his voice taking on an eerily endearing quality. 'I'm not going to hurt you yet.'
